KOHLER 1005201 Friction Washer - Perfect for Kohler K-10412 Single Control Faucet
This friction washer was exactly what we needed to help our 2.5 year old Kohler K-10412 Single Control Faucet (Brushed Nickel finish) operate like new again, after we worked on it to stop a leak. The leak started about a week ago and got progressively worse each day, virtually turning into a river two days ago. This washer and other parts were delivered yesterday and, with our 14 year old son's help, we fixed the leak this morning. The total job took about 20 minutes (think we could do it in 10 next time though...), and to stop the leak we replaced the valve ( Kohler GP1016515 Valve for Single-Control Faucets ) and the the o-rings and slide bearings ( Kohler GP30420 O-Ring Seal Kit for Kitchen Faucets with Bearings, O-Rings and Lube in the process.Replacing the friction washer makes it so that the spout does not just swing freely back & forth... it adds friction, giving you more control over the spout and making the whole unit feel more substantial. If just replacing the friction washer, the job would have been about 5 - 10 minutes (depending on how much grime you have to clean up in your system). The steps below are what it took to replace just the friction washer; if looking for the steps to replace all parts mentioned above, please follow the link to the o-ring kit and read the more expansive worklist:* Turned off the water running to the sink* Put stoppers in the drains on both sides of the sink, just to make sure nothing accidentally went down the drain...* Used a small flat-head screwdriver to remove the plug from the back of the handle, providing access the handle's set screw* Used a small hex (Allen) wrench to loosen the set screw, and then lifted the handle off* Unscrewed (by hand) the covering over the valve (took a bit of 'uumph' to get started, but easy thereafter)* Lifted the faucet ('hub' and 'spout') straight up and off.* Thoroughly cleaned the inside of the 'hub' and the handle with soap and Scotch-Brite scrubbing material* Removed the old friction washer from the base of the unit and threw it away* Used soap & the Scotch-Brite material to clean the area where the friction washer lays* Lowered the new friction washer into place* Lowered the faucet ('hub' and 'spout') back into place* Cleaned and then screwed on (by hand) the covering over the valve until finger tight* Placed the handle back on top of the valve, lining up the valve stem with the bracket inside the handle* Put the set screw back in place, and hand tightened with the hex (Allen) wrench until just snug* Replaced the plug covering access to the set screw* Took the drain stoppers out* Turned the water back onLike new. Excellent. If you have the same sort of issue, a loose spout, and have confirmed that this washer is right for your unit, we recommend it highly.Go for it.

that looks like it belongs on top of a half gallon jug ...
Very expensive for a small thin piece of plastic, that looks like it belongs on top of a half gallon jug of juice or a gallon of milk. With a price tag of just over 13 dollars, for a cheesy piece of plastic, it better work well. So far so good, but it seems like the old one would have been fine to keep, but when your replacing parts you might as well replace them all, so you don't end up having to take your faucet apart twice. Would be better if it was made from metal, to support the weight of the METAL faucet, but as usual, the manufacturer makes stuff as cheesy as possible.

Works as intended, fair price, can’t complain..
Direct replacement, replaced while swapping the cartridge as well as bearings and orings. This part is a friction ring that tightens the faucet back so it doesn’t swing back and forth so easily after years of use...
