Great Backup Irons
I purchased this along with the matching front sight. My primary requirement was something made of steel because the front sight was to be mounted on a gas block and needed to be able to withstand the heat. I wanted something that could fold down so that they wouldn't be in the way when using optics, and, naturally, something that would hold zero. One of the main reasons I chose the Magpul MBUS Pros is because I've used the excellent Magpul MBUS sights. One of the things that really impressed me about the original MBUS sights was their ability to hold zero. The other thing that impressed me was that they didn't seem to have any other major problems either(ie, randomly deploying). The other reasons I chose these sights were that they are made of steel, Magpul has a great reputation for producing quality products(my personal experience with Magpul products being quite positive), and they were reasonably priced. Unlike the MBUS, these do not have any form of automatic deployment(no push button pop-up). These are lower-profile than the MBUS. Most notably, they are much narrower. The profile of the rear sight makes it fit within the area above the charging handle latch on an M4 upper without any protrusion, which is very nice. Their low profile means they do not interfere with mounting options for optics. Both front(elevation) and rear(windage) sights are finger adjustable. The adjustments are fairly stiff - not so stiff that they are impossible to use, but enough so that I have no worries about anything moving over time. Also different from the MBUS, these are a melonite finished steel. The steel construction means they can stand up to the heat of being mounted on a gas block. I'm not terribly familiar with the melonite finish, but from what I gather it's supposed to be fairly durable. The rear sight contains both large and small apertures, and is relatively easy to switch between the two. Four days ago I did a rough zero at 100 yards with these sights. Three days ago I ran a local three gun match using only these sights. Things tend not to get treated particularly well in three gun, so I think it makes a great proving ground. I didn't have any problems with changes in point of impact throughout the match, even between cold(beginning) and hot(end)(approximately 120 rounds throughout the match). The last of five stages involved steels at 100(x4), 300(x2), 400(x2), and 500(x2) yards. In 100 seconds I was able to score hits on all but the last steel at 500 yards using these sights(and I think I hit the first steel at 500 twice). I used the same gun in all of the preceding stages, meaning it had been moved between the rack and the case at each stage, and dumped four times prior to being used to engage targets at range. Over all I am very happy with their performance, and they certainly live up to the reputation that Magpul has garnered.

I really wanted to love this sight...Now I do!
UPDATE: I just ordered another one and am happy to report this new MBUS Pro rear sight is excellent. It performs like a champ, lives small on the rail, and snaps to attention where and only as commanded. Buy without hesitation and if you sense any issues, phone home to the Magpul mothership ASAP. Below is my original 2 star review retained here for historical, cautionary, and amusement purposes only. ----------------------- I really wanted to love this MBUS Pro, but it won't, or maybe even can't attach tight enough to the rail. One side of the base is an immovable rail grab. The other side is 2/3s immovable rail grab and 1/3 adjustable. That results in a slight twisting of the sight when mounted. But the real deal killer is that the sight actually rotates back and forth slightly. I tried I it on several rail locations on two different guns and had the same result everywhere. At first, I wondered if I got a counterfeit one, but this one has all the markings including a cage number, number in a circle, and a magpul inscribed screw head. It also had the nice packaging I'd seen pictures of online. I was ready to call magpul to see if I got a dud, but looking closely at the design of the mount base, unless the rail fits so tightly into the immovable sections of the rail grab, this sight cannot be straight or snug. It basically tightens on only one small portion of the rail. This is just a guess but the base design of the Pro is similar to the polymer MBUS (which I also have plenty of experience with). The base of both types of sights is roughy square. On the MBUS, the polymer fits quite snuggly on the rail prior to tightening due to the elasticity of the plastic combined with being slightly narrower than the rail width. However, the non-moving rail grabbing edges on the metal Pro cannot be narrower or it would not fit at all. So the corner of the square that is adjustable does two things. First, it locks in a rotation point that the sight moves around, and second it clamps the rail tighter than the rest of the sight base meaning its tiny rail footprint is all that is holding the sight secure. On the polymer MBUS, the initial inserting of the tight fit is already much stronger, and then the larger footprint of moving rail grab tightens it even more restricting all motion and rotation. The guess here is that a design that works with a tight fitting polymer does not successfully transfer to a metal design. Instead, the Pro should have either give the adjustable rail grab a much larger rail footprint, or placed it in the middle of the sight instead of the corner, or even make two adjustable grabs to torque the square holding it perfectly centered and above all perfectly still. Other than that, this is a great sight of superb build quality and function. I knew that being an early adopter of this sight would be a risk. It was. I'll give it another try when the Gen 2 version of this sight comes out. Magpul's foray into metal BUIS is a work in progress. They absolutely nailed the form and function. Now they just need to find a way to nail the sight to the rifle. *Note: All of the above is said with the upmost respect in Magpul as a company and innovator.

Beautiful, well made sights. Well worth the extra cost.
I was originally looking to get he MBUS Gen 2 flip up set, but was told that the Pro's, especially the front, would serve me better on a gas piston rifle. I wasn't too concerned, being aware of Magpul's reputation. I can say without any hesitation, that I'm more impressed than expected. These things are incredibly well made, and solid. Well worth the extra cost, in my opinion. Installation was a snap, and took a couple minutes, only requiring a flat-blade screwdriver. The flip-spring tension is perfect; strong enough to keep it where you put it, with no play at all, but not so strong that it's hard to manipulate. It's perfect. Dialing them in is very straightforward, and easily done with no need for tools others than your fingers. I'm also really liking the smaller profile of these sights. I know that the MBUS Gen 2's are very well thought of, but I always thought they looked a bit bulky. Not the case with the Pro's. They are very streamline and low. I really like that. Also, the fact that they're one hundred percent metal, they really look to be part of the rifle. The look is nice and clean. I can't be happier with theses sights, and would not hesitate to recommend these to anyone.

Excellent sight. Very small and all metal, allows for just a little more room on your rail when it is down.

High quality. Accurate even after repeated heavy recoil. Low profile when folded down. Works great on any weapon with a rail. Buying another set!
