Don't pass on this book - it's terrific! - Lisa Gardner hit it out of the park with this one. I loved it. It began a little darkly, but once I was into it (by just a few pages) I could not put it down. There are deeply developed characters, all of whom kept me guessing. I became protective of Melanie Stokes ("the other daughter") almost immediately. There were multiple plots, or mysteries, and it was difficult for me to determine which to focus on first. In her distinctive way, Ms. Gardner helped keep my focus on everything (!). Without giving anything away, I couldn't figure out who the bad guys were and who were not. I personally have attended an execution in Huntsville, TX and appreciate the author's research and resultant accuracy. Lisa Gardner has always impressed me in that regard. This is a stand-alone novel. However, if you haven't read her 6-book FBI Series, this would be a great read before FBI Book 1, The Perfect Husband. If you figure out what's happening before the last 7/8ths of the book, you're a better sleuth than I. Definitely an enjoyable, intense read. Review: good read - very good read. enough twists to keep it interesting. Typical Gardner novel

Loved it!
I have always enjoyed Lisa Gardner’s books but this one was exceptional in that it was so exciting and convoluted that it ranks up there with one of her best! I’m usually fairly good at figuring out the bad guy but she really had me struggling with which character was the worst. If you’re ready for a wild ride pick this novel up for yourself and enjoy.

Great Read
I haven’t had a book I didn’t want to put down in a while! This was a good one, lots of twist, you think you might know what’s going on then something new happens .

Redundant
The book kept repeating over and over. I found myself skipping all of the parts where they rehashed everything. That's not how I like to read. The book could have been told in 250 pages, not 449.

Follow me Miss Stokes...
Ahh this was soo good! We find ourselves entwined in Melanie Stoke's life, trying to keep her family together, all the while trying to please as she goes. Little does she knows, her life is thrown into a roller coaster of turmoil when her and those close to her start to receive crptic notes about the little girl she "replaced ." This was definitely a crazy ride! Although I did predict quite a bit of it, it was soo well written and made you sit on the edge of your seat, praying to know what happens next! The ending had me in tears... Absolutely loved it. 10/10 recommend!

The other daughter review
Lisa Gardner is the best murder mystery writer I have ever read. She never disappoints and this one was great. Try as you might, you can't figure it out so you keep reading, you can't put it down, you have to know. And you never forget it.

I loved this book it is a real page turner. In typical Lisa Gardner style it draws you in from the start and has you gripped until the end. Great plot with characters you wanted to know more about. Finishes with a twist keeps you guessing right until the end. Recommended for anyone who enjoys a mystery thriller.

This story was full of surprises and is everything I could wish for in a good mystery - an original story, a lead character who you can sympathise with, plenty of activity going on in each chapter and keeps you guessing. Melanie Stokes has known she was adopted by her family at the age of nine, although she has no recollection of her first nine years of life. She also knows that her family lost their daughter Meagan to a brutal murder. But twenty five years later, Melanie is given a bombshell that makes her doubt where she came from and the people she calls family. It has so many twists - some of which you really can't see coming - and it is easy to get caught up and not wish to put it down. When I had to put the book down I could not wait until the next opportunity to pick it up. An excellent read and I shall be looking out for more of the author's works.

Normally I rather like Lisa Gardner but this is perfectly awful. Corny, badly written and 100% unbelievable. Would a mother not recognize her own child a mere 5 years later?? Give it a miss.
