It is like going to the doctors office and using theirs. Its not "soft" but not "rough" either. It is a good 2 ply and the company has amazing customer service. Worth trying it out.

Does this brand compare to Costco's Kirkland brand?

I would say yes, i swapped from kirkland to this one last year and have saved money with pretty mush the same quality. Doesn't fall apart when whipping and isn't ruff on the delicates.

Is there any plastic packaging?

The rolls are individually wrapped in paper. I don't recall seeing any plastic packaging. It was shipped in large box. Great purchase
