LEGO Castle Gold Getaway

The Gold Getaway set makes a great and inexpensive addition to the latest Lego Castle series. My 8 y/o son and I had a blast not just building, but playing with this set. If you own the King's Castle (Lego 70404), then the Gold Getaway is a no-brainer addition to your collection. The King's Castle has a treasure room, and a "break-away" door for the villains to steal the treasure chests through. Coupling that with the Gold Getaway makes for a lot of imaginative, fun scenarios for normal Lego play. And as any Lego fan knows, playing with the set is just as important as the fun you have building it. The only drawback to this set (and not worth docking a star for) is that it comes with two King's Knights, but only one Dragon Soldier. It would have been nice if Lego had kept it balanced and included 2 of each faction. However, you do get the Dragon Soldier horse, which is a nice compromise.

I have been a huge Lego fan since before I started kindergarten, and still have some of the pieces from those first sets I got as a child. I have been excited since they released these new sets, and have purchased all 5 released so far. I almost rated this set 4 out of 5 stars because on its own, it does not make a very exciting toy, but when combined with the other sets in this theme, it is a great addition, so I had to give it a 5 - besides, it comes with two minifigs and a horse. I can only assume that someone interested in this set would be interested in others in the same theme. This set includes a giant crossbow, a wagon for transporting up to two prisoners, a horse, a mini castle (for ambushing), and three minifigs. I like this set because it has a chain to hold the door closed. You open the chain with a flick-fire missile. It's easy to build and it goes with all the rest of my castle LEGOs. I got this as a special gift when it was really my brother's birthday. Now, our family combined has every castle LEGO set they make.

My grandson is the expert on this item so I will just quote what he said; Papa! This is awesome! He is a Lego expert at 8 years old! If he says it is good...then it is definitely good! Your Lego fan will not be disappointed!!

For my thirteenth birthday I got this and was overjoyed. It looks amazing when you display it and is easy to put your minifigures in and out. The main 2 problems with this is that it is harder to build than most sets and you must read the instructions very carefully. The next problem is that it is not very durable. I showed my 26 (now 27) year old brother and he thought it was cool, but when I picked it up to put it back it fell apart. 2 suggestions: 1. Build on a table or flat and hard surface when you build it. 2. Before you pick it up you should check to see if each technic pin is tightly secured in each section of the castle. Overall, it is a good deal and very nice for display.

My son loves it. The parts are becoming more and Kore specialized, which is a shame because they lose them and then they become useless. I think investing in full set of basic blocks is bettrr, but the engineers that design them do a great job

Although this is recommended for 6-12 age range, my five year can build this set well. My recommendation is for you to start using small sets first, teach your child to sort the colors first. Then teach them how to read the directions step by step. Lego is a great way to teach organization, and direction following with lots of fun!

The Lego Castle - Gold Getaway (Lego Model #70401) is an excellent set - especially if you are using it to complement other Castle sets (such as "King's Castle" - the carriage is just the right size for the Castle). It is sturdy & easy to play with.
