Q: Another seller shows the filter placement in the opposite direction with the raised portions on top. Which is correct?

I found that when the smooth side is down it creates algae or mold, when the pockets are down it works much better. I guess either way would be ok since it filters the water either way, but because of the light in the bottom that is where it gets yucky

The filter you are talking about (I believe) does not come with square sponge pre-filter.

Puurrrfect Question: Your filter pad has two sides - one side is flat and the other has four elevated pouches. The side that has the four elevated pouches, will go into the filtering system downwards- meaning the flat part of the filter will be faceup - towards you!! Make sure you rinse real good and change monthly. Hope that helps!

Q: Does this fit a LinGear cat fountain?

If your current filter is 5" round with a 1½" hole and about ⅜" thick, and pretty much looks like the picture. Then this filter will fit. I've been using them for several months and they appear to work fine. Neither of my cats have gotten ill or exhibit any heavy metal intoxication symptoms. They continue to prefer this fountain over the toilets.
