Tate Lyle Demerera Sugar Cubes - 500g

"Square Brown Sugar"
These are very good quality "brown" sugar cubes; they will add a little 'caramel' flavor, but not too much. These are cut, and of uniform size, unlike the "rough cut" kind I'm starting to see in local markets; we use these primarily in tea, so I like the fact they are all the same. Depending on the kind of tea, you will notice a slight difference in taste: Darjeeling with a Demerera cube will be quite different than with a white one; chai spice is so strong with its own flavor, you may not notice the hint of caramel-ish warmth. However...an Old Fashioned is noticeably different with one of these! Yum.

Something Different
I bought these because a raw sugar cube was on the ingredient list of a cocktail called the Sheer Glamour at the restaurant at Bergdorf-Goodman. I was there as someone's guest and knew I'd never afford to go back on my own, but I wanted that drink again! It was champagne, Chambord, a raw sugar cube, and Plum Bitters (which I also ordered from Amazon). I have no idea of the measurements; I just put everything together until I liked the taste. The sugar cube dissolves in the drink after a while and the last few sips are super-sweet and decadent. I still had a lot of sugar cubes left over and no real use for them, so I started putting them in my brining liquid for chicken and pork chops: water, 1-2 tablespoons of salt, and 5-10 of these sugar cubes and let it sit for a few hours to overnight. It really made the meat pop with a lot of complex flavor and I highly recommend it. I guess it doesn't really have to be in cubes for this application. You could just buy the raw sugar loose. But then, what if you wanted to make a Sheer Glamour cocktail? I'm just sayin'...

Der Artikel gefällt mir vom Preis-Leistungsverhältnis, der Qualität des Rohrzuckers und das man ihn zum süßen von türkischem Tee benutzen kann.
