LumiQuest Mini SoftBox LQ-108

this little softbox works wonders, when considering the cost of it, and what it's REALISTICALLY meant to do. it is not meant to replace a large or even medium softbox. if you're looking to soften up that much light, just buy a shoot through umbrella or a larger softbox. what this does is make the light from your speedlight/off camera flash MUCH less harsh. it takes a little getting used to, but i never ever leave without one of these in my bag. it also lessens the harshness of your flash to others as well, when shooting bands or public events. you lose about 1/3 of a stop, but if you know what you're doing you'll learn to compensate.the only thing i didn't like about this is that the velcro comes attached to the softbox itself. the prickly side of the velcro is attached to the softbox, and assumes you put the soft side of the velcro on your speedlite. WRONG. i have all my other items (gobo, snoot, gel holder, etc) configured so that the hard velcro is on my speedlite, so i had to peel the velcro tape (quality velcro tape, btw) off the softbox, and stick the soft velcro back on the softbox. kind of a pain. let us make the decisions on our rigs next time, lumiquest.but seriously, for this little money, you can't afford NOT to give it a shot. it does look a little goofy, but when you see the results, you won't mind how it looks. i haven't used my sto-fen diffuser since i bought this.

After trying this on a Nikon SB-400 flash unit, attached via the LumiQuest Cinch Strap, I decided to try this on the Sima Ultra Bright Video Light - attached using the provided velcro felt strips. (I get complaints that the ligh is too harsh during filming...) Wow, what a difference. This Softbox takes the edge off the Sima Light and provides a nice key/fill light now during low lighting conditions. So nice that I've decided to by 2 more and an additional Sima Light for both key and fill for video (look up 3-point lighting technique).The advertised use as a Softbox for flash units is excellent. Especially with the SB-400 and it's limited range of motion (read portrait vs. landscape orientation of the flash), I don't have to worry about a surface to bounce the light off of. Just put this Softbox on and shoot...So, it's a great alternative to augment your existing light sources to get results that might normally require purchasing additional lighting equipment. I recommend this product for it's multi-purpose use and flexible design.

Some of the reviewers don't understand what this product does, I'm a professional that uses this all the time. In a lower light situation outdoors when you need some fill flash, the on camera flash will be too harsh at its lowest setting. This helps to soften the light quite well and allows you to use some fill light on camera indoors and outdoors in low light. This is a tool, but you have to know what to do with it. It certainly is not a large softbox, what do you expect. It's all about surface area. The problem I have with this is the build quality. Pretty quickly all the corners begin to tear, it's still usable but the corner tears begin almost right away.

I am not that sold on this yet. I have had it for almost a month but I am not sure I find the value it in.I guess if you can't bounce its the next best thing. The problem arises when you realize you're losing around 1 stop of light... which makes you wonder if there is any actual "softening" at all and just forcing you to lose a stop of light to create a "softer" light.So far I am not fully convinced its worth the money, but it didn't cost that much so I'll keep it around and try it out some more.

If you need an inexpensive, easy to use softbox, this is the one for you. It is definitely not professional quality, but provides a good solution for use on the go. It folds up nicely to travel in your camera bag, and gives a good flash dispersement. I'm not a fan of the Velcro attachments you have to glue to your flash, so I use 2 Velcro cable ties to secure it to my flash, a Nikon SB600.

I bought this along with the LumiQuest Pocket Bouncer and the Cinch Strap and these are all great products to have with you anywhere you go.I have a Canon 430EX Flash and these have all been great for helping to control flash output and adding warmth to images. The Softbox is especially good in that it is used with the flash in a 'straight-on' position and it greatly helps to eliminate the 'shine' on foreheads, cuts down the sharpness of shadows and adds great warmth to images with people.All these items fold and tuck away neatly for storage and carry along with the flash unit.A great THUMBS UP! from me.

I wish that I bought the bigger SoftBox III and maybe the ProMax system. I end up using the mini in bounce or just tiled up one click if outside. It small size still gives me a harsh light unless used on bounce.

A friend of mine purchased this mini softbox and showed it to me ... I tried it and it worked great ... I use it for nature macro photography and it works great. One minor "pain in the butt" is that it requires the use of velcro all the way around your external flash (to hold it on) a Canon 580EX in my case. Bottom line is that it works great for a small price.

Difusor pequeño y que se pliega mucho. Está pensado para pegarlo al flash con velcro, si no se hace así resbala un poco sobre el plástico. Si no quieres llevar el velcro pegado siempre, lo ideal es poner una goma elástica alrededor del flash, poner el difusor y luego otra goma elástica que lo sujete. Yo llevo las gomas dentro del difusor plegado.

Ich habe diese Softbox bestellt um meine Portraitaufnahmen angenehmer aussehen zu lassen. Das heisst, weiche Schattenkanten und nicht zu stark bzw. überbelichtete Gesichter.Die Softbox habe ich dann in einem Outdoor-Shooting getestet und sie hat ihren Zweck erfüllt. Die Gesichter waren gut gleichmäßig ausgeleuchtet und nicht überstrahlt. Die Bilder wurden in Hoch und Querformaten geschossen.Kamera: Nikon D90 (Modus A & M) Objektiv: AF-S Nikkor 18-105 & AF-S Nikkor 55-300 (Hintergrund unscharf) Blitz: Nikon SB-700 (Modus: TTL & M)teils zur zusätzlichen Ausleuchtung - Reflektor 110cm Durchmesserpostiv:+ weiche Schatten+ natürliche Farben+ keine roten Augennegativ:- Klebepads um die Softbox per Klettband am Blitz zu befestigen (also ich möchte nicht sowas an meinen 300€ teueren Systemblitz kleben)- kein Hinweis, das man ein  LumiQest Ultra Strap  bestellen kann, um die Softbox auch so zu befestigen (habe mir erstmal mit einem Küchengummi ausgeholfen)- Kanten passen nicht ganz aufeinander ( + was aber dem Ausleuchten keinen Abbruch macht)Im Großen und Ganzen eine gute Mischung aus Preis-/ Leistungsverhältnis für Hobbyfotografen, für den Semiprofi- und Profieinsatz eher weniger geeignet, da gibt es Modelle im höheren Preissegment, die sich dafür besser eignen.Aber da ich noch am Anfang stehe und viel ausprobiere, ist es ok :-) LumiQest Ultra Strap

Piccolo e comodo sia da portare in giro che da montare sul flash. Pensavo fosse un po più grande ma ammorbidisce bene le ombre nonostante la dimensione ridotta. Forse l'unico difetto è il prezzo che è un po alto.

Montée sur un flash Pentax AF540, la lumière est bien diffusée uniformément. Ce mode de diffusion est préférable à une diffusion par réflexion sur l'environnement (murs) car la température de couleur de la lumière n'est pas modifiée. Le montage par bandes velcros tient fermement.

Utiliser avec succès pour le mariage d'amis.Ce petit diffuseur permet une bien meilleure répartition de l'éclair et évite le syndrome "fromage blanc" typique de l'utilisation du flash.Il tient parfaitement avec les velcro sur mon Olympus FL-36 (qui est un petit flash)Très satisfait.
