Excellent product for telling if your dishes are dirty or clean in the dishwasher
I like this product, I bought one and a friend liked it so I gifted it to them. They are cheap enough, so I got another. Some people with or without dishwashers might think why would I need something like that for? If you don't have a non-human powered dishwasher (other than your kids), then you probably don't need one unless you are going to gift it to someone.But... for those of you who do have a dishwasher. This would be a very handy accessory for your dishwasher. Usually, before you load your dishwasher with dirty dishes, you might take the time to rinse off your dishes. And if you do them on a daily basis and they don't get disgusting and crusty with dryed on food because they have been sitting in the sink for a week, at a quick glance they may appear clean.Well, this is where this handy little gadget comes in. Whoever loads the dishwasher with dirty dishes spins the indicator so that "Dirty" is up. Or if you load the dishwasher and run it, then you can spin the indicator to read "clean". It takes the guess work out of deciding weather or not you have a dishwasher full of clean or dirty dishes. If you are like me and actually unload the dishwasher after the cleaning cycle, I usually spin it back to dirty, because as I use dishes, pots and pans, and utensils during the day, I take the time to rinse them and put them in the dishwasher as opposed to filling the sink and counter space with pots, pans and dishes.I felt like doing this little narrative as opposed to doing a one liner that simply states "Works Great".By the way the indicator sticks to the washer door via a suction cup on the back. Just a little water or spit and it sticks to the door for months. Occasionaly it falls to the floor. I just re-wet the suction cup and it sticks back on.I would recomment this product to anyone owning a dishwasher.

Don't know how I ever lived without this
I love this little dishwasher dial. I was a little skeptical at first because what I was really looking for was something that said dirty on one side and clean on the other, like the old school "Open/Closed" signs businesses hang on their doors, and I thought this having both words on one side would create opportunity for confusion, but it is actually really awesome. I bought this almost a year-and-a-half ago and it is still holding up quite well. We have a basic, white Whirlpool dishwasher and since day-1 the suction cup has held strong, and, though it feels very flimsy and easy to turn, the dial does stay exactly where it is set. Our dishwasher does have a light that indicates when the cleaning cycle is complete, but once the door is opened the light goes out, and in our house, for some reason, people seem to think the dishes being clean means they can reach in and get what they need and leave the rest for someone else to put away. This really does take the guessing work out of doing dishes.

Well worth the $2 I spent, not worth much more, but really a product that tells you if dishes are dirty shouldn't cost much more
I wanted one of these because my new washer has only internal buttons and no lock, soI only know that it is on by putting my ear close to the door and listening for water wooshing, and I only know that the cycle has run by pulling out various items and inspecting for cleanliness. So this definitely helps . . . as long as your partner remembers to spin the dial. My two notes are that (1) this is a suction cup, not a magnet as I had expected, so the first time I stuck it on, it fell off (suprisingly loudly) 5 minutes later, but water and firm pressure have been employed, and it has remained afixed for the last week (unless my boyfriend has resuctioned it without my knowledge); and (2) the spinning dirty/clean indicater is a little chitzy, as in it is a little wobbly and not a smooth spin. That being said, it was so inexpensive it was an add-on item and it does the job just fine and it would be insane to expect a $2 piece of rigid plastic stuck to a piece of flexible plastic to run like a fine tuned German car. So, don't ne insane. Buy this $2 dishwasher indicator, wet the suction cup with whatever is hand, press it firmly to your dishwasher, and go on about your day, happy that you won't make the mistake of eating a piece of cake with a fork that tastes suspiciously of last nights spaghetti sauce.

Only works if you use it!
After hand-washing for a couple years we finally replaced our dishwasher! We got a deal on an all-black set of appliances, but were worried that our InterDesign clean/dirty indicator wouldn't be visible so we almost passed it up- just kidding! Seriously though, we have no issues being able to see the words on a black background. The plastic material reflects light so unless you're in a cave or 10ft away you should have no problem. Correction- I'm standing in my living room and although I can't read the words I can clearly see the clear half is on top.The design is simple and doesn't look tacky in our kitchen. The suction has not failed yet after many months using it daily, but as the title of my review states: It 'only works if you use it!'. Our dishwasher has a little green light that shows 'clean', but once you open it(to grab a spoon for some late night ben&jerry's) it goes off. Then the next person gets upset because they don't know if the dishes have been done AND you ate all the ice cream! The wonderful little device has prevented many conflicts in our household and can in your's too- if you remember to use it.Jae
