I love you, little yellow box cutter.
I’ve been keeping a pair of scissors near my door for YEARS to cut through package tape. They’re my trash scissors, that I got from the dollar store and have never been particularly great. Over the years, they’ve also been joined by a pair of craft scissors I had dulled to the point of not really being particularly useful.Using either of those pairs of scissors for one or two boxes here and there has never been a pleasant time, but it wasn’t terrible either. It would take a minute and I’d get over it and go back to whatever I was doing before breaking down my box.But then the world collapsed and I suddenly found myself getting absolutely everything delivered, from all purpose flour, to hand soap, to miso soup. And because amazon’s boxing algorithm is a mystery to us all, an order with five items will somehow arrive with 20 boxes Stretched over a week. Hey, I don’t make the rules, maybe they multiply on the way over?Suddenly, a slightly irritating but brief task has become a daily event. My terrible scissors were no longer a mild inconvenience, but actively dangerous and sometimes infuriating. Why not? I thought, upon seeing this $2 box cutter. It’s about the same price as my scissors have been, but it’ll actually be sharp. And y’all? I’m so happy! The slightly exposed blade nubbin EASILY breaks through packaging tape, never losing its depth and bouncing out of control on a potential path of harm towards my fingers. And the deeper I set blade? You know how, sometimes, things come wrapped in a five inch thick layer of bubble wrap and packing tape? It’s not even a little bit of a problem any more. The plastic pointer easily guides the blade through any available gap you find or make, cleanly slicing through dense layers of protection.Which is to say, look, I know nobody should love a stupid little box cutter that literally costs about the same as a pack of gum, but this bad boy has improved my quality of life enough that I fully endorse it. Plus, the hole in the handle means it has officially evicted my dollar store scissors from their hook by the door.Update, the blade is now getting a little dull so the inside part doesn’t cut as butter-smooth as it did at first, and there doesn’t appear to be a way to change it. Still, I love the little thing and sing its praises. Will continue to use it like crazy until I can’t be used at ALL any more.

The Pacific Handy Cutter DCF364 is a GREAT TOOL
Review for Pacific Handy Cutter DCF364, purchased September 2023: I first started using these while working at an Amazon Fulfillment Center. During irregular use, they last a long time (months). If you are using them everyday, throughout the day, you can burn through one a week. PHC DCF364 are sturdy, reliable and safe. I put old ones I had laying around to good use after starting a retail dock job. I've since handed them out to co-workers, or broken and used up all the old spares I had laying around, and have come to Amazon to purchase them for personal and work use. That's how handy this tool is for working with corrugated materials.NOTE: Occasional cutting of thin cardboard with quick strokes is doable, but the DCF364 is not good for regular or related cutting of normal eighth or quarter inch corrugated materials. The blade will regularly get jammed up and dull quickly. I suggest or recommend a Pacific Handy Cutter S7 or S8 series safety box cutter for regular cutting of thick walled corrugated materials.

Sensible option for a basic box cutter
This is my favorite style of box cutters. Cheap, but great quality. This is a safety knife with virtually no way of harming yourself or others 🤣. Great value.

A Cut Above the Rest
Having used everything from pocket knives to letter openers for box battles, I've found my match with the Pacific Handy Cutter. Its design is the epitome of safety and efficiency - sturdy enough to tackle cardboard without threatening the goods inside or my clumsy fingers. It's a child-safe tool that's become indispensable for my daily package rituals, making it a trusty sidekick in the war against packaging. However, it's not without its Achilles' heel; durability can be an issue with frequent use, as the blade dulls quicker than one might hope, turning box opening from a sprint into a marathon. Perfect for light to moderate use, but for those dealing with heavy-duty tasks daily, you might find yourself looking for reinforcements sooner than expected.

It works as intended
It looks exactly like the photos, the blade cuts film easily, the little tip tape blade works really good, and it's easy to use it. Maybe if they make the tip flat it would be easier to open boxes, because it's pointy and it makes holes on boxes sometimes, but overall a good purchase, and obviously worth the price.Update: one broke after trying to open some hard boxes, maybe 2 weeks after purchase, they are really disposable.

Best packaging opener
Primarily use this at work as a grocery stocker. Safe design means I don't have to worry about accidentally leaving it somewhere that a kid or vandal can get ahold of and hurt somebody.Tape cutter blade works well on tape after some practice. The dull blade means its less likely to damage product within the packaging, but it can still score plastics, papers, and carboard if not careful.Hook blade works especially well on plastic wrap, both on the packages themselves and super effective when unwrapping a pallet of goods. The nose tip of one of my openers broke off and has a more rounded profile, this made it less effective at piercing plastic wrap but made it less likely to snag on products such as wrapped flats of soda.Blade material seems common steel, or at least the same kind of steel seen on razor blades. Rust prevention is low grade, and will rust when exposed to decent amount of moisture, but this does not significantly hinder use for cutting open tape and plastic wrap (it does however make it difficult to cut cardboard).Factory sharpness can easily slice through cardboard, but can dull easily. Blade has a tendency to collect bits of tape once dull, and can't be sharpened or replaced since its effectively cast into the handle itself. However, the lost cost of the tool makes up for the limitations of the blade.
