Definite difference between these and lower quality
This is the only ones I use on the furnace. They’re very high-quality look at the package and you’ll see that they filter out not only animal dander and fur, but viruses and smoke and other things that float in the air. After I install a new one. I let the furnace run for 24 hours to clear out the air, but I changed it every 2 to 3 months because I have two cats. More expensive than the lower quality ones, but definitely worth it. Much higher MPR.

The best for allergies and other things floating around in the air!
Here's proof positive that this thing works. We had been using this filter on our builders-grade HVAC. When our furnace went, the company rebuilt the conduits such that they gave us the ability to put in a 4-inch thick filter which was supposed to be better. It was not even close. Don't let your HVAC company make you do this and here's why. As part of the promotion to convert to the thicker filter cabinet, the company gave us 4 new 4-inch filters which were good for one full year. After installation, the next day both my husband and I were struggling with our allergies really bad and there was a strange odor in the house whose source happens to be a mistake my husband made by throwing some powdery thing on the rugs that was supposed to help with a problem. Well it didn't and it got sucked up into the air vents, circulated around our house as dust. When this happened (before the new 4-inch filter cabinet was intalled), I switched to this Filtrete filter (the 1-inch size). It worked fabulously. The dust cut way back and the smell was gone. We also noticed the improvement in our allergies in that they were almost non-existent.Once the 4-inch cabinet was installed, all of that changed. Well, maybe it was the lower rating, right? Well, kudos to my HVAC company who got their hands on the 4-inch thick version of this filter. We thought, "great, our problems are solved."The next day, when we got home from work, as soon as we opened the door we were still hit with that smell, albeit not as strong. Even worse, our allergies barely improved. I thought we needed to give it a couple of days. We did. It didn't improve. So, I stuck this 1-inch filter back into the 4-inch cabinet and with the air suction through the vent, it stays in place. Not thinking a second thought about it, my husband and I came home the next day from work and all was great again. No smell and no horrible time with allergies. Why you may ask? Well, I believe it has something to do with the amount of air that is filtered. I did a calculus approximation between the two and there is far more filter material per cubic inch for the 1-inch filter as there is for the 4-inch filter. That alone made the difference.Moral of the story: Don't get a 4-inch cabinet and don't use anything but this filter. :-)

great filters
these filters are awesome just sad that they are so expensive but that's okay because was having two dogs and me having such health issues it helps with me because it takes away the petland or the dust the dust mites whatever else you can think of it takes it all away only thing is is we live in a housing project and they will not do the blowing out of the vents which would be great for my health

Worth every penny
My mom has COPD and these filters have cut down the number of flares she has. We use in addition to the high MERV larger filters for our furnace. Great price too!

Excellent filters, but not 3 months
I love these filters but they don't last me 3 months. 1 1/2 months and then it's time to change them.

Excellent air quality with minimal airflow reduction
I get bad seasonal allergies, and I'm allergic to my girlfriend's cats, so keeping good air quality is important to me, and these seem to be one of the best options available. Since these also remove germs that the dust and allergen filters don't, I thought the more it can remove from the air, the better! I was concerned about whether this would significantly reduce airflow, because I've heard horror stories from my dad who does HVAC work about how much airflow reduction and motor strain can occur when you replace a dust filter with a HEPA filter, but my research online seemed to indicate that 3M has found a way to get very good particulate filtering without the downsides experienced from most other filters. I did some comparison between these and a few other thinner filters, just by feeling airflow at the vents and returns, not with any real measuring tools, and I didn't notice a significant change in air pressure, even on the top floor of my three-story townhome. I'm happy with the filtering so far, and I plan to continue to use these, at least until 3M comes out with something even better.
