This is an excellent guide with a solid overview of eastern MA’s hikes. We may not have the mountains but we are blessed with numerous woodsy trails, ocean views, and scenery that changes drastically with the seasons.I’m an avid hiker and was pleasantly surprised to see this author included the same local hikes I consider to be “gems”. The maps are simple and accurate, the background information is concise and interesting. She also provides information on parking, restrooms, and dog-friendliness.I’d suggest this book for both new and experienced hikers. There is a solid variety of lengths and difficulties that are beginner-friendly. And for more experienced hikers it’s great as a starting point for exploring non-local areas.

I've done seven of the hikes so far, from Mount Watatic in the west to Nasketucket Bay in the south to Maudslay State Park in the north with a few others in between. The guide is well-written and informative, and the directions are easy to follow. The fifty hikes are of varying degrees of difficulty and in diverse terrain. I've enjoyed visiting places I would otherwise never have thought to visit. My only quibble is that some of the locations are quite clearly in Central Massachusetts, but that's a minor point.

Cute little guide, the author clearly knows her stuff as its very well written, its the perfect book to leave on my coffee table so when I'm being lazy on a day off. I can get some quick motivation to get up and head outside and do some exploring locally. Usually It leads to fun little adventure in a beautiful hidden gems thats a short drive and I never knew about. So thanks Madeline :)

Great book. We've been to half a dozen places in it so far as we're working our way thru all the hikes.

I love this book although so far I have only taken 1 home from it. That was was exactly right in terms of rating, mileage and description of the trail.I’m planning my 2nd one for 2 days from now!

Well written with great descriptions and maps. The key has all pertinent information, such as dog friendly, bathrooms, etc.
