Klein Tools ET140 Pinless Moisture Meter for Non-Destructive Moisture Detection in Drywall, Wood, and Masonry; Detects up to 3/4-Inch Below Surface

After dealing with a suspicious damp spot near our bathroom wall, I picked up the Klein Tools ET140 and I'm genuinely impressed. This pinless meter scans up to 3/4 inch below the surface without poking holes in your drywall, which was exactly what I needed to track down a slow leak without causing more damage in the process. Setup took maybe two minutes — power it on, select your material type, and start scanning. The readings were consistent and repeatable, which gave me real confidence I was getting accurate data rather than random numbers. I was able to map out the moisture boundary around the affected area and confirm when it had fully dried after repairs, which was incredibly useful. At $49.97, this feels like a genuinely fair price for a Klein Tools product. The build quality is solid, the interface is straightforward, and it performed reliably every time. Seems to work well and readings are reasonable. No, this is not nist-certified but Im not using this for paid professional purposes. I used it to verify that my packages of New wood flooring had acclimated to the house, and that humidity levels of New flooring was within a couple percentage points of the underlayment in the room. The $50 paid for this tool guaranteed that $1000 worth of flooring was ready to install. Get that step wrong and you could have a floor that buckles or shrinks! Money well spent.

If you have any worries about water in your home you need this. It’s super easy to use and sensitive from my experience with having water damage. It’s helped me isolate the areas and then know when they are no longer wet. Has modes for drywall, masonry, hardwood, softwood. I’ve used it in all because I’m paranoid about water damage after have multiple instances.

We rented out our house for the last 15 years while I was overseas. I recently remodeled the bathrooms, recently the one bathroom always smells damp. The last thing I wanted to do was tear up the bathroom again. I decided to try this moisture detector. It came fast, had a good price and is really easy to use. But I kept wondering if it is actually accurate. I did a video that shows everything below. I decided to do some tests with it. It has 2 meters, one shows you the percent of moisture and the other is a green to red/dry to wet moisture indicator. It also has four different modes; drywall, masonry, hardwood and softwood. First I set it on the drywall mode and tried it out on my wall. The moisture indicator didn't register at all and it showed anywhere from 1% to 5%. This seemed like quite a range and had me wondering if 5% was good or bad. I knew I needed to test a couple of scenarios. I got a piece of scrap drywall and filled a bowl with water. I put the drywall over the bowl of water, this gave me a reading that was less than 1% and still didn't register on the moisture indicator. This had me thinking maybe a 5% reading is bad. But, I am willing to try anything before I tear into the drywall to find out there is no moisture. Next, I poured a small pool of water on the floor and laid the drywall right on top of it. With the meter on the drywall which is sitting on the pool of water, it gave me a 6% reading but still didn't register on the moisture indicator. Again, now I am really starting to think I may be tearing into some walls. At this point my drywall is wet and I need to clean up the water I dumped on the floor. I soaked the water up with the drywall piece then tested it again. I put the moisture meter directly on the part that was in the water. It now showed 25% and 2 green bars on the moisture indicator. I didn't let the drywall really soak up the water and it read at 25%. I now see that a low reading isn't really detecting any water damage maybe just a little bit of moisture. At 25% there is definitely some moisture or water. I would recommend this to anyone who thinks they may have a water leak prior to cutting into the floor or drywall. Feel free to check out my video.

I bought this to check for moisture in a tile floor at a home I was looking to purchase. Home had a previous water event due to a bad hot water heater. Moisture readings were in the 70% range! Dodged a bullet on that one! Being a Klein tool was a no-brainer purchase.

Big, clear display. Probably not as effective or accurate as the versions with the prongs, but non-destructive as a result. Easy to use.

The Klein ET140 it’s very accurate and super easy to use. No pins means no damage to materials and gets quick, reliable reading perfect for wood drywall and more. This is a solid tool. I highly recommend.

This works great. There is a black plate in the back of it and all you have to do is slap that undecided and it reads it instantly

Seems to be a great moisture meter. I believe it's accurate and the readings are consistent. Before and after planing shows a difference of .4% which proves this meter was worth the money. It also works great for other materials. Would recommend.

É muito bom, conferido com o detetor de umidade da Flir e ele fez a mesma detecção. Esses tipos de medidores não marcam a umidade absoluta e sim a umidade relativa, é necessário fazer o mapa de detecção. O aparelho tem um ótimo custo benefício, engenheiros diagnósticos podem apostar no aparelho, é durável mas, não tem assistência no Brasil, se quebrar, compra outro. Eu recomendo e uso.

Habe ich gekauft für mein Wohnmobil und damit Feuchtigkeit am großen Panoramafenster (Dichtung) entdeckt, von Werkstatt bestätigt. Bisschen teuer, aber wahrscheinlich seinen Preis wert.
