Refurb drives had 40,000+ hours, expired manufacturer warranty expired
The two drives I ordered were in good physical shape and worked well, but I decided to return them.I used my computer's S.M.A.R.T. utility to look at the disks' internal logs and found that although they weren't showing bad sectors or other errors, they each had over 40,000 hours (that's more than 4-1/2 years!) of service time. Also... contrary to the Amazon listing, they are no longer eligible for a three-year manufacturer's warranty as that has long since expired.I'm sure they're fine drives, but they weren't a lot less expensive than newly-manufactured drives with a full warranty. I wanted to like these drives, but the safety of my data is important!

Works great - 4 year warranty from WD
The NAS drive came in a generic box but the anti-static bag was unopened. I was able to register it with Western Digital and got the 4 year warranty. Very satisified - but be aware that your mileage may vary.
