Ice T does heavy metal
One of the albums that played repeatedly in my car and on my stereo, this was Ice T’s crossover band as he made the successful transition from rap into heavy metal. It originally gained fame/notoriety due to the controversy surrounding the song “Cop Killer” which was perceived as blowback against perceived police brutality in the wake of the Rodney King episode. Lots of angry political riffs on this debut record that reflect the social landscape of the early 1990’s, particularly the racial strife, perceived police abuses, and gang warfare in south central Los Angeles. The band consists of Ice T and other young black musicians from the South Central area, and the lyrics reflect their concerns at the time.Moving past the politics of the record, Ice T will definitely not be remembered for his wide vocal range, depth of octaves or even much thought provoking lyrics, that don’t go too far beyond scratching the surfaces of the ills of society that he is upset with. However his off range vocals prove to be a success because match the sound of the band which was in its early stages and relatively unpolished. However THAT is this album’s appeal. While trying to convey their political message, Ice T and company also know how to have a good time with some fun thrash metal songs that resemble a great garage band that also wants its listeners to throw back shots of hard liquor and mosh their real life troubles away. Because of this the politics of the band never eclipse the true thrash metal/Fun time listening experience and the record Is a success in terms of the genre, and for pure thrash/hardcore fun. This was my favorite album in Body Count’s releases; subsequent albums weren’t bad per se but never recaptured the band’s success in producing that loud, abrasive, yet appealing music that so appeals to bored, disenfranchised male youth who this record is targeted at. A great success at early crossover thrash and a small yet significant contribution to heavy metal history

BC proves the test of time....20 plus years later!
Ice-T and Body Count is one of those groups that comes around every 20 years that defines what it really means to be an artist and have a 'scorched earth' point-of-view. One of my Top 5 Favorite Albums of All Time, BC is the epitome of angry black youth and Generation X set to hardcore punk and trash metal. OG Rapper/Singer/Shouter Ice-T delivers a history lesson from his perspective that's one-part reality tv (before it became a term), one-part rock concert, and one-part angst fest along with Ernie C's spot on guitar work. The best tracks are "KKK Bitch" and "There Goes The Neighborhood" which blasts the sterotype that only 'white people' enjoy rock, punk, and metal music. Now, BC isn't just a serious, 'angry' album. It does have its funny moments with the tracks 'Voodoo' (where Ice-T is getting the 'figurative beatdown' from a voodoo witch in New Orleans) and 'Evil Dick' which is tongue-in-cheek about one's sexual proclivities. The most compelling track is the (ballad?) "The Winner Loses" which tells the unfortunate end-results of drug abuse. Proving the test of time, BC, was just as angry and relevant then....as it is NOW while poking fun at the establishment!

PARENTAL ADVISORY
Ice-T's landmark album Body Count is unusual for several reasons. It's the reason "Parental Advisory" stickers are now in place on records. It's a very gritty, vile, disgusting, angry and obnoxious piece of work. It is also quite well done. It's not for everyone, that's for sure. And it reflects the anger that was ready to boil over, and eventually did when it turned into the Los Angeles riots in April of 1992. The record label finally pulled the song "Cop Killer" from all the albums. And Ice-T quickly replaced it with "Freedom of Speach" using the hook from Jimmy Hendrick's "Foxy Lady" and looping it. It's actually very funny, and gives the listener a inside look at the politics going on at the time. They even had a congressional hearing on the matter, after the president himself called a news conference and scorned the album. As did the L.A.P.D. It features some really good guitar work by Ernie C. And also has a very positive anti-drug song about crack addiction. A very good album all in all, and a very historical one at that. Just don't let the kiddies listen to it...

Body Count, i love the name Ice.....
Received the Body Count cd and in good condition. Even though this cd doesn't have cop killer on it, this is a really good collection of Ice T's Body Count. I purchased this cd a long time ago before the idiots who don't believe in freedom of speech made such a big deal over this song and Warner removing cop killer. Well some one stole that from me. This cd is still really good. I really think alot of the songs have a serious message, and I'm surprised Warner didn't remove any other. Good rock band with good lyrics!
