London Fog 1966

Great recording

OKsure its a bit of a swizz, the doors managemnet took a 32 minute tape and stretched it out to a box set. But wow what a tapeSure it only 7 songs and mainly covers but this is the eary doors, 1966 come on. This is awesome the doors as a bar band before they even played the Whiskey. Jimbo sounds young but still like Jimbo. Its a decent sounding audience recording, the covers are solid and interesting and sound like the doors which is surprising given how young they are. You make me real is the standout, its the same compostion as on Morrison Hotel but its clearly emrionic, you really are hearing early doors here. Thats why it gets 5 starrs its just such a unique are rare thingThe box itself is kind of cool, like a real look into the doors time at the Fog, I expected to feel bumped with it but I kind of like it.The taper had a second reel from the same night which has a 15 minute recording of the end but she cant find it., it was recoded as a soundtrack for a student film she made, she reckons both tapes are in a box, somewhere, so maybe one day...

The earliest Live Doors recordings finally made available, what a shame again that this box set is rather poor value for money.The music was captured live on a reel to reel tape recorder at the London Fog, the music is recognisably the Doors as a band they appear to be fully formed, and professional competent musicians still some time away from a recording contract but the spark is there.Despite the source the sound quality is very good there are official live albums with much worse sound quality (Earthbound by King crimson for instance). The music includes originals ‘Strange days’ a year away from official album release and ‘You make me real’ which is nearly 3 years from its official album release, as well as blues covers such as ‘Baby Please don’t Go’, ‘Hoochie Coochie Man’ and ‘Lucille’. It’s a shame the second reel has not been found as we would also get a version of ‘The End’. To that extent I cannot fault the music.The box contains a set list (authentically crumpled) a coaster (with Pamela Curzon’s name on the back), some glossy photos, a small essay about the venue the show and the Doors and the 30 minute set on CD and vinyl, all this is then held in place with a large amount of bubble wrap the box is that big and the contents that small.All in itself is very nice to have but why do we have to buy Vinyl and CD together?A note as well do dial the phone number in the bottom of the box you may be surprised!!The box comes in a postage box which is Doors branded as well which is a nice touchMy compliant is why not include the demo’s which originally appeared in The Doors box set , or add the music to a re-issue of the matrix music in a box set and give us some value for money in terms of music content, for the price this represents more than one pound a minute for the music.In summary the music is exemplary the box set is a waste of space, and the whole project could have been much better executed.

Wow ! was my fist impression when I heard the quality of the recording. It has to be one of the holy grails for Doors fans. It is like entering a time warp. The tape starts with tuning up and from that point on you feel like you are in the gig itself. It is quite clearly a recoding from the audience but it must have been made on good equipment for 1966. The vocals are slightly more distant than the instruments and they are a little sharp but overall it is nicely balanced. The whole item is a really cool. I love the hand made packaging and the contents, which have been made to look dated and old. The recording is only 32 minutes long but what a 32 minutes that is. For Doors fans itbis a must have item.

Ordered this back in October and almost forgot about when it arrived the other day!From the cardboard box it arrived in everything about this box set is amazing!!The attention to detail is top notch with photographs from the gig and even John Densmore's handwritten set list included.You even get a beer stained coaster that's made to look authentic from 1966, turn it over and you see Pamela Coursons name smeared in beer stained ink too.Of the actual recording i've not had time to listen yet but judging by the the reviews i won't be disappointed so it's 5 from me :)

This really is an amazing find. While we have had many bootlegs of different concerts over the years to actually find something new is very rare nowadays and I wasn't disappointed! You get both a CD and vinyl copy and the quality it's great for a reel to reel recording and rest of the goodies in the box make it a must for fans. Hopefully they will find the other part of the concert (I expect they already have found it) and it will be released soon.

Waited for this cd to be made available and I’m not disappointed. A worthwhile addition to yourCollection of Doors releases for a reasonable £10. Get it while you can.

Disappointed with posted labels on designed box graphics

Tellement content que cet enregistrement fut retrouvé et mis sur le marcher pour les amateurs des Doors. Je suis à laisse avec la qualité d'enregistrement. Si seulement la compagnie pouvait mettre la main sur d'autres enregistrements du groupe.

Este álbum apresenta um Jim mais jovem e dono de uma voz ainda em treinamento. Apresenta um ótimo repertório e contém um encarte com fotos interessantes. O ponto fraco é a embalagem que é digipack, acho que o fã merecia mais. O cd chegou bem embalado, nada a reclamar.

Esta edición es mucho más bonita que la del RSD.
