A truly sophisticated knife with great balance!
This is not the most expensive knife I own, but it is likely the best, for three reasons: - blade, - handle, - and the perfect balance between the two.Firstly, about Tirpitz blade: - If you ever yearned to find a pattern-welded Damascus blade that was more beautiful AND metallurgically-superior (with 61RC hardness) than the now-ubiquitous Chad Nichols Damascus (56-58RC) - this knife is your answer!Secondly, the handle: it is the most comfortable folder handle I have held in my fairly large hands. The superbly-radiused aluminum scales feel utterly rigid, yet their silky-smooth finish betters just about every titanium frame-lock I have owned or held in my hands, including various Lionsteels, Sebenzas, ZTs, Spyderco's, as well as some customs. I now understand why such a perfectionist knife-manufacturer like Rockstead also chooses aluminum over titanium for handles for their thousand-dollar knives.Lastly, the entire knife feels all-of-a-piece rock-solid, yet supple and velvety-tactile. The overall balance is amazingly neutral, and perfect for a tactical classic spear-point, with fulcrum point right about the pivot, which makes it neither blade-heavy, nor handle-heavy. - This is one truly sophisticated knife. The combination of fully-resolved design, perfect fit-and-finish and good materials place this knife head and shoulders above the 99 percent of knives, (including custom knives double the price) that you are likely to encounter. The fact that you can get it for only $100 more than a Lionsteel SR1 (with Chad Nichols blade) makes it probably the best value in luxury folders that I know of right now (February 2015).To fully understand this knife, you need to hold it in hand. I had great expectations for it, and, amazingly, they were fully met and even exceeded.I am fully satisfied with my purchase.

Holding history in your hand
I'm approaching this review of the Boker Tirpitz Damascus lockback folding knife as a historical object, rather than a utility knife. The knife itself is large, solid, locks open with authority, is well made and is nicely put up in a wooden box. But for me that's not the point (no pun intended). The knife's beautiful damascus blade is forged from steel from the armour plate of the German Battleship Tirpitz, recovered by divers after the war. Grasping this knife is holding history in your hand. The story of the Battleship Tirpitz, and the many British attempts to destroy it during World War II, is well known. The Tirpitz was based in a Norwegian fjord and posed a great threat to Allied shipping. The British mounted multiple attacks on the Battleship, using everything from midget submarines to carrier aircraft, with little success. Finally, in November, 1944, RAF Lancaster bombers, using giant "Tallboy" bombs, struck and sunk the Battleship, with the ship rolling over and coming to rest upside down in the fjord.Postwar, from 1948 to 1957, Norwegian and German divers cut up and salvaged the ship (which was a hazard to navigation) as it had come to rest close to the shore and was partially above water. However, parts of the Battleship remain underwater in the fjord to this day and are still being recovered. It is from armour plate of the Tirpitz, recovered by divers in modern times, that this knife's Damascus blade is forged. Now you know the rest of the story.

My new EDC
A really quality, well made knife. Very nice Damascus blade. Only complaints are the blade tends to show rust because the Damascus design holds moisture; and the blue paint on the frame easily chips. Don’t carry keys in the same pocket.

Boker Tirpitz Damascus Mini Review
This is one beautiful, historic knife. It's exactly what I've been trying to buy ever since I first heard of them about 2 years ago.I will be using it lightly at times but I'll also be displaying an artifact made from metal that was used in the construction of Nazi Germany's largest battleships. The pattern of the Damascus steel blade is exquisite, as is the build of this knife. I can give the blade button a slight nudge and then use my wrist to easily flick the blade open to its locking position. The only thing I would want changed is the Tirpits emblem. It should be a silver-medallion with the coat of arms on it, instead of a simple burned image on the oaken insets on the handle. Here's the Wiki page for the "Tirpitz", [...]. It makes a nice read about your new piece of history.
