Makes great chaffles, with a C
Someone said they tested for lead and it was positive. So I tested, tested something known to be lead...car battery terminal. Tested the cast iron NOT positive for lead. This is a great little waffle iron. I'm enjoying using it and do so on an electric burner. I do not however make waffles. I make chaffles which are eggs and cheese, not batter. This little jewel crisps them up in a way my electric waffle iron never could.😋

Can cook waffles in electric oven with this cast iron waffle maker
It took a little time, but I figured out how to cook waffles in an electric oven. Please note that this is cooking for a crowd, but I think you will get the idea.First- clean & season the waffle iron. I put oil on it once, then just let it "cook/season" whenever I was cooking other items in the oven for several days. You should expect the waffles to stick the first time you use it, but once you get the seasoning & timing right, they come right off the waffle iron. Just scrape off the messed up waffle, then let the extra "cook off", then scrape it with a fork & the brush they send. Then try again.Preheat oven to 450 degree, then put pans in for at least 15 min.Or, can slowly preheat the oven to 450 with the pans in it, but may take much longer."FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS BELOW!This is for 12 waffle irons on FOUR rows of an electric oven.Use the TOP FOUR racks of the oven with 3 waffle irons/rack.Anything lower burns/overcooks.OVERVIEW: You will put ~2/3 cup waffle batter in the preheated pans (no oil), close pans, & put back in oven. Start on the top row & work your way to bottom. When done with the last/bottom row, immediately set timer for 14 minutes & when it dings, the top row should be done. This is a 2 PERSON job! It goes much faster & smoother if 2 people work together.Instructions are written like you are getting a batch of waffles out of the oven.1. One person gets all waffle irons off the TOP row of the oven &puts them on the stove top. That person opens one waffle iron and thesecond person uses two forks to lift the waffle off the waffle iron andput it on a pan. Once the waffle is out, leave the iron open &lean it up against the back of the stove top if possible. Repeat withrest of irons ON THAT ROW. Now all the waffles are out & it's timeto refill.*NOTE- the square irons stay open better than the round ones. The round ones tend to need to propopen on the back of the stove & they may slide down so be careful.2. One person puts 2/3 cup waffle batter in an open waffle iron and thesecond person gently closes that iron. Repeat until all the waffleirons on that row are filled up & quickly put back in the oven on the same rowthey were on.3. (Quickly) Go to the next (second) row and do the same process of removing the waffles & refilling the waffle irons.4. (Quickly) Go to the next (third) row and do the same process of removing the waffles & refilling the waffle irons.5. (Quickly) Go to the bottom row and do the same process of removing & refilling the waffle irons.6. Once all the waffle irons have been refilled, set the oven timer for 14 minutes.7. When the timer goes off, take out the top row and start again.*this is assuming all the waffle irons have been seasoned well."If the waffles split open when check on them, you have not cooked them long enough. If they are hard as a brick but come off the waffle iron, cut back on the cook time. If the waffle irons sit out & cool off too much between batches, it will affect the cooking time too.I also tried another brand of waffle iron (that was heavier in weight) and I could never get it not to stick, even using oil. Overall, figured out how to cook lots of waffles at one time (after spending a small fortune on waffle irons).

It needs to be really HOT
Finally tested it out yesterday - works great although I put a little too much in it so it oozed out and I didn't have it hot enough but after a few adjustments the waffle still came out great although I thought it would be taller? Can't wait to use it again. And clean up was a breeze because it is cast iron. Definitely a great investment. With a little practice I can see it will be used all the time.

Smaller than you think it is
Nice design, sturdy, I'm sure it will work well. But it makes little tiny waffles.

very disappointed
bought 2 of these, so i could rotate between cooking and unpanning waffles. was also thinking i might be able to reverse the plates, and make flatbread... now i don't know if i can ever even use these again.oiled both before using, but both waffle irons stuck and burnt so bad, that i could not unpan the waffles. it was like they had never been cured. the batter was not the problem, considering we turned around and made beautiful johnny cakes (pancakes that puff up really think) out of the rest of the batter. perfect golden brown johnny cakes, with absolutely no sticking issues in a regular pan. whereas the irons sucked up all of the oil from both the precoat as well as from the batter, like they had been starving for oil.i will try again, after hard scrubbing off the remains of the waffles, and curing all of the plates multiple times, but i'm now quite anxious just how porous the metal must actually be, and the chance for an oil fire in the oven while curing... i will have to be extra careful while curing. if it gets too dangerous, i will have to stop, and see about a refund. I'm in LOVE!
This is one of the most satisfying purchases I have ever made! Electric waffle makers never gave me what I wanted in a waffle, and they were always hard to clean. This cast iron waffle maker is a dream come true.I seasoned the waffle maker very well before using it. The first few waffles you make may stick, but the more you use it the less they will stick. To make the waffles, I heat the pan over medium heat, flip it over to heat the other side, open it and brush on a mixture of melted butter and oil, portion the batter, close it, flip it again, and cook for 1 and a half on bother sides. That is what works for me. The waffles are perfect and crispy on the edges.Note: the more you use it the better non-stick it gets, making sure the pan is hot enough and properly greased before pouring in the batter.
