ESV Study Bible (Black, Indexed)

Love it. I like the one column of text vs the two. A lot more study notes than I've had in other study bibles. It is large and a bit heavy. Paper used is not super thin. You can write in it and use a highlighter without destroying the next page. Thorough study notes, good colorful maps, intros to every book, and extra info as needed within books/chapters. Please note, it is not red letter.

I was raised as an Episcopalian, their focus was on the book of commen prayer. I got saved 2 years ago and have been looking at different Bibles to learn what I have been missing. The ESV Study Bible makes reading the Bible so much easier and has a wealth of knowledge in all of the introductions to the different books and the foot notes. I have learned so much in a short time I look forward to the learning and loving the rest of my life. The thumb indexing is a huge help. The leather cover and binding are of great quality. As others of have mentioned the words of the Lord are not written in red. That would be the thing that is missing. The colored detailed maps and drawing and sketches are done really well. I love this Bible. It is a big book so it does weigh a lot. The Amazon Basics Large Carrying Case for GoPro works great as a book case. This is big enough for the 2.5 inch spine of the bible.

Love, love, love this Bible! I was looking for a Bible that was easier to understand than the King James version, but I didn't want to give up any of the true meaning in the translation of the word or have it dumb down. I did some research and decided on the ESV ... English Standard Version. They put a lot of thought in to not loosing any of the true meaning of the original language in the translation. And with the added benefit of the study notes they give explanations of the choice for the interpreted word if it does not translate into English. I also find the notes to be extremely helpful in understanding what is being said. King James, Hebrew, Koine Greek, and Aramaic are languages that I do not speak/read, but like in any culture people spoke differently than we do today. So, it really helps with understanding what God was trying to tell us, even today. If you are looking for a good Bible I recommend this one. The leather cover, book index, gold leafing make this a beautiful Bible as well. Joyful Reading :-)

Excellent translation, tremendous commentaries, informative introductions to each book, also single column. Some wording is different however the verse has the same meaning. Easy read, only issue is that the pages are super thin due to having all the provided information. I used my NASB for 20 years and it is falling apart, so much so that I needed a replacement but it needed to be a single column and this ESV is rated right at the top with the NASB..

Really nice high quality Bible. Love the gold with black, the real leather, and the notes are really nice. I would totally buy this Bible again for myself if needed, or as a gift, given that it is so nice. Definitely big, so not the best for carrying around, but personally I like a big Bible.

Great Bible in the accurate ESV translation. A huge multitude of additional study guide materials including charts, maps, footnotes. It also has a lot of introductory material to each chapter such as the expected dates of the writings and background info. The additional study guide material was written by a large team of theologians and Bible scholars so it has more thorough checks and is not just one individuals explanation or take on certain topics. The overall quality and leather is top notch as well.

Substantial is the word that comes to mind for the ESV Crossway Study Bible. At 2750 pages and weighing in at 4.6 lbs this fine work of craftsmanship is a brick. The construction of the Bible is top notch and the leather cover is genuine leather not bonded “leather”. At this price point I was very pleasantly surprised at how nice the leather cover is, and the smell is heavenly. The content is well organized and easy to use. The maps and diagrams are very clear. I’m a NASB user but I’m becoming fond of the ESV. It is a very good study Bible. Highly recommended.

I ordered and received the ESV Study Bible with the ISBN 978-1433544064. The quality is excellent as expected. Printed in China. But there is something you should know before purchasing this bible: According to the product information the release date is 2014. But when I open the bible it says "ESV Text Edition: 2016". In this edition they changed Genesis 3:16 to "Your desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you." In the current text edition 2025 they changed it back to "Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you." I can not judge if it is really possible to interpret both text versions from the original Hebrew. But I think it is important to know that you get a newer text edition than the release date. For German readers it is interesting that there is now also a German bible with the comments from the ESV Study bible: "Elberfelder Bibel. Die große Studien- und Kommentarausgabe". But the leather edition for 180 € is more than double the price than what I paid for the indexed genuine leather edition of the ESV Study bible for 75.49 €

I hunted for a long time for a beautiful, well thought out Bible with excellent craftsmanship to spend time studying the written word in a way my brain didn’t drift with the old complex language type that my original bible was written. I am a creative mind and need something that captures and holds my attention and engages me to stay and spend time in my prayer and meditations. I also wanted to make my investment with a producer of Christian content to support their efforts as opposed to a typical corporate bookstore. I am beyond impressed and delighted with this book and am excited to begin my study in it and then to pass it on some day. I will be investing in one for both my son and daughter so they can enjoy one of their own on their spiritual journey. Thanks Crossway!

Bible très bien conçue et documentée restant facilement transportable. La police de caractère utilisée pour le texte est correcte, quant à celle des notes annexes plus petite une paire de lunettes peut parfois être utile. Néanmoins cela reste un détail en comparaison de la qualité d'étude du texte. A recommander à toute personne intéressée par une étude approfondie de la bible.

A very well structured and well presented Bible with plenty of information. The only negative is the lack of Red letter for Christ words.

I love this bible for it's wealth of information. It is a very informative for study purposes. For those who are looking for the words of Jesus in red, you will be disappointed. The text is arranged in one column only, which I prefer but this may not suit everyone. The book lies flat nicely. It is a very large book and not ideal for carrying around.
