Not sure where the 4 and 5 star reviews are coming from but these mats are made of the cheapest material, ultra thin and worthless. Ordered 2 of them, they arrive totally folded up and provided instructions to lay weights on them for a day to flatten out. Layed as much weight as I could on them for 2 days, they never flattened. Just figured they would flatten on their own after a while, they NEVER did. The are extremely thin, the wheels of chair just push down the material making it extremely difficult to even move around. On top of that they smell absolutely awful for about a week, really strong chemical smell. Chair wheels get caught on them constantly since they don't lay flat. Absolutely one of the worst purchases ever. I would return them if it wasn't such a hassle. Went to local office supply and bought much thicker, FLAT ones that work great.

It wasn't light weight, but I'm very happy that it wasn't. It's very sturdy and very well made. We are extremely happy with this chair mat. It was much cheaper than others of this size and well worth the price.

4 stars if your chair will always be on the mat surface, 2 if on and off. For the price it does its job if your chairs casters are on the mat all the time. If you roll back off the mat however, getting back on does not go well... the mat catches and bunches up more often than not, requiring you to pick the chair up and move it. It needs a taper on the edge to prevent this. Not a deal breaker, just an annoyance, but an annoyance none the less if that's how you use it... I guess if you need a reminder to get up frequently it might be useful for that... It does seems to be holding up well, as it tends to get scrunched up a bit under my desk and bent a bit, but hasn't shown any signs of permanent damage from it.

[Update:]: After 9 months of use, i decided to throw it away because the chair wheel is almost unrollable over the mat, as the mat is not strong or sturdy enough to hold up the pressure. I am lowering the rate and I cannot really recommend thisI always find it frustrating to move around the rolling chair in my home office. Those wheels feel stuck on the carpet. This chair mat solves everything. It is thick and feels quite heavy duty. The teeth underneath the mat give good grips on the carpet. So when my chair rolls smoothly on the mat, the mat stays tightly with the carpet. Although it came in rolled, it doesn’t take much to flatten out. Comparing with other over priced chair mat, this does the job just right.

Item arrived quickly. Easy to put together, though I recommend a second person to hold the seat back in place while you screw it together.I didn't have someone help me and the seat back is slightly crooked. It could be that the original holes were drilled crooked, or the fact that there wasn't support while putting together, but the end result is that one side of the seat back sits about an inch higher than the other. I can't tell a difference when I sit in it, I think it is only noticeable when looking at the back of the chair.

I ordered this item as a replacement for one I had ordered from Amazon a few months before. Sorry I went with a lower priced version. This was so thin and soft my chair sinks into it and is extremely hard to roll. When I unpacked it the odor reminded me of a road killed skunk.. I have a scented candle burning now, but if it doesn't get better soon it will get tossed outside. For another $10 I could have gotten one like I had previously. I don't expect this one to last long even if it quits stinking as it is so soft I am sure it will rip soon. I guess the secret is to make sure the next one comes unrolled which would indicate to me it is stiff enough to actually hold up a chair. I am not throwing the old one away, even if it is curling on the sides.

I bought this because I have to have the carpet stretched in a room because I didn’t use one. It seems to be heavy duty and durable and easy to roll the office chair in the room. Time will tell how durable it is as time goes by.

The mat had a really bad smell but that eventually wore off. The mat moves over time which is disappointing. I’ve not ever had to readjust a mat as often as I do this one - at least once a week - probably since it is much thinner than the mats I’ve bought in office supply stores. Was hoping for better quality. Will buy my next one at the office supply store.
