The angelic voice and youthful sparkle of this budding star is hypnotic. Shot on location in her hometown of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Aselin Debison is joined in performance by her mentor and co-songwriter Bruce Guthro. Just a delight!
I live in New Zealand, and had to import this from Canada. Aselin was introduced to me via Youtube, singing "The Island". I was hooked in 5 seconds. She truely is a remarkable performer, with one of the most rich voices I have ever heard. Her personal honesty during this concert is totally enchanting and I quickly found out why she was described as "the child that could bring grown men to tears". I cannot pick out any one song during this rich and beautiful feast. As Aselin sings, each song is a journey, to be travelled with her - all in her home town of Glace Bay in Cape Breton. The sense of being there is disquieting, leaving you smiling and with the almost unsuppressable urge to clap at the end of each song! The production is excellent for an outdoor and live performance. The backup musicians and singers are superb in every way, and every performance is exquisite. Their interaction with Aselin is stunning and I easily sensed a strong affection for their little charge. The beauty of the site captivates one straight way. Even the stage, although probably temporary, is amazing. And yes, she brought me to tears - hint, I am a dad. This DVD is a delight, and must for any fan of Aselin!

A Fresh Recording Worth Your Time
I caught a few minutes of Sweet is the Melody recently on public television and was really captivated with this music. It has a freshness and transcending beauty to it which is usually missing from popular music. The focus is on the music instead of the performer, and that is rare these days. (The choice of backdrop in the video was also great and reminded me of a children's story I am working on which is set on the north Oregon coast.) In particular, The Island brought to mind a haunting Gaelic melody I heard in the late 1980s. That song told the story of a ship lost at sea in the area of the Isle of Man. I ended-up losing the name of the singer myself in the years to come, so I made sure that I went out and bought this music before I misplaced yet another musical jewel.I hope that Aselin's future work skirts modern culture just enough so that she continues to offer something fresh, different, and real. After all, the last thing we need is another Britney Spears! My only comments for improvement on this DVD format are that it is impossible to simply play the songs in order without the dialogue in between. While the interviews and dialogue are great, it would be nice to be able to skip more easily at times. Also, there are a couple of times where there are recording errors which aren't fixed quite right.

The voice of an angel
I saw this years ago on PBS and was so enchanted by this child, her voice and the people of her town, I had to have this concert with me. Beautifully filmed so that I wondered what it would take to move to Nova Scotia. That idea passed, but barely.

ASELIN DEBISON-SWEET IS THE MELODY IN CONCERT
I SAW THIS PERFORMANCE ON PBS AND SO THAT IS WHY I PURCHASED IT. I THOUGHT SHE WAS CUTE AND DID A NICE JOB OF SINGING. SHE ISN'T A JACKIE EVANCHO BUT I ENJOYED HER PERFORMANCE AND I LIKE THE SCENERY AND LOCATION THAT IT WAS AT. IT WAS NICE TO SEE HER TOWN GET BEHIND HER AND THAT ALL ADDED TO MAKING A PLEASANT THING FOR ME TO WATCH.
