Great, affordable way to fill your telephoto niche.
I bought this lens in anticipation of a 3 month trip to East Africa and it performed beautifully. The build quality is very good, it held up for a 3,000 mile motorcycle journey and a handful of rainstorms, bumps, and drops. Though relatively large compared to the camera, it's still much smaller and more portable than DSLR lenses of similar focal lengths so it maintains the compact benefits of the mirrorless system. The small camera body looks a bit ridiculous, especially when the zoom is fully extended and the lens hood is on, but the weight and balance is very comfortable in the hand. Not an expert on performance but this lens was an enormous step up from the kit lens for wildlife photography and (to a lesser degree) portrait shots. Clarity is very good in most cases, though performance diminishes in low light. A wider aperture would be nice, but for the price I can't complain. The 55mm minumum focal distance limits the versatility of the lens (especially at f4.5 since a wider aperture would make it much more well suited for portraits) more than would be the case on say, an 18-200. But I obviously knew that before purchase.Overall, this lens does exactly what I bought it for and does it very well. I can't recommend it enough for someone looking to take advantage of alpha series' interchangeable lens system and step into focal lengths not provided by the kit lens.

Love this lens!
Easy to use and focus is great. Bought a “resale/refurbished” one through Amazon. So far, so good!UPDATE: after using for a few months now, I have to say that the zoom quality of this lens is superb, but you will need to sharpen/crop etc during editing. This is a great lens for beginner photography to figure out what kind of lens you are looking for. I've taken photos of my spouse playing soccer, helicopters/planes flying, landscape.. it's very versatile and lightweight, so it's a good travel/everyday lens in my opinion.

Lightweight, good range coverage, and doesn't hinder the fast AF of the Sony A6000 :)
I bought this lens to accompany my recently purchased Sony A6000 camera. Works perfectly. 55 to 210 is a range that I principally as a wildlife photographer find incredibly useful. And whilst a Sony mirrorless camera won't be replacing my full dslr for animals anytime soon, this lens works really well, and the zoom range picks up where the 16-50 kit-type lens for the A6000 stops. Very light, nice texture on the zoom ring; I purchased my lens lightly used, and it does expand and contract really easily. I don't think the weight of the lens, its elements, or the hood (which is also satisfactory) would really cause it to travel and slip out of the set range, a lock to keep the lens in at least the 55mm spot wouldn't go unappreciated - but that's likely just me and my paranoia :/In short; good lens for the money. Not a phenomenal one; the f4.5 - 6.3 range isn't ideal, but for what you'll pay, it's very adequate. It's light enough to not be out of place on a camera as small and equally lightweight as an A6000, but not enough to feel precarious. Would greatly recommend to any hobbyist or prosumer in the market. The number of Sony lenses are still growing, but this is a good entry in the lineup, and covers the seminal 70-200 range every camera should be able to reach out to.

Great Lens for the Price
Pros: Nice lens for the price.Cons: Gray market means attractive price with risk of more difficulty dealing with problems.I took a chance and chose the gray market option. For me the price difference between this and the OEM was worth it. The lens is real and takes good pictures. Sony's E mount kit lenses are more than adequate for someone at my skill level. I'm sure you can find better lenses. You'll also pay a bit more for them. I missed the telephoto capability of the superzoom my NEX 6 replaced so I invested in a bit more length. For things like kid sports this is a good solution for me. I've had no problems with the lens and doubt that anything will show up in the remainder of the easy fix warranty period.
