Fantastic high security lock! Problematic Alarm...
The lock itself is fantastic, and uses an abloy-style disc-type lock tumbler, so it's virtually upickable (never buy a Master Lock, unless you want some kid picking it in 5 seconds flat). Construction is very sturdy, and it's thick and heavy. A would-be thief is NOT going to cut this off. Now, keep in mind, any lock alone can't stop a determined thief, as all it can really do is slow them down, or force them to use another method, like removing your rotor or wheel, or picking the whole bike up and loading it on a trailer. Trust me, it can happen... But as far as maximum value for delaying thieves and making them re-think your bike as a target, this will serve pretty nicely. For best results, use in conjunction with the steering lock, and put the disc lock on the rear wheel (provided the rear wheel isn't too easy to remove) so they can't just pick the front of the bike up and wheel it around.Don't forget to get a reminder cable, or you'll forget it's on there and end up wrecking your bike! Now, the bad:The Alarm feature on this lock is pretty OK, however, it tends to go off all the time while being transported around or stored. I honestly wish I could just disable the alarm so it's not wailing in my tank bag or storage compartment while I'm riding. I've tried all kinds of things to eliminate the false arming, but nothing seems to work. The sensor isn't dirty or out of alignment from what I can tell, and it only seems to arm itself when I stow it away inside a bag or something where I can't see what's causing it. I can't get it to do it while I'm watching it. Oh well, I'm sure the battery will run out eventually and it'll stop going off....Minor thing, but the locking pin is a tad too large to fit through my rotor vents.
