Very informative. Great for any history buff or reenactor

It was a gift for Dad, and he mentioned he liked it. He is a hobbyist blacksmith and took his first European vacation to Scandinavia. I thought it might be too academic for him, chock full of metallurgical charts and diagrams, but there was enough commentary to engage the layman.

I put it on my bucket list to build this set.

The Mastermyr Find was an extraordinary discovery -- a Viking tool chest, with all its tools. The plates, both photographs and drawings, in this book clearly show not only the chest itself, but also the tools it contained. Some are surprisingly familiar. Others, once common to the kits of the tradesmen who used them, have given way to different patterns. Additional drawings show the tools as they would have looked at the time the chest was somehow lost in what was then a swamp. It is a small snapshot of the time as it had been packed for travel, even having cooking tools attached to it for the journey.The book is an excellent catalog of Viking tools, but it is also a hoard of information. What cannot be easily seen in the photos is made plane by the descriptions and archeological drawings. The metallurgy of the artifacts, from saws to bronze cauldrons, has been examined and included in the text.How well do I like the book? I immediately bought another copy for a friend.

as others have mentioned, it would have been better if the illustrations were placed within the text, but overall this is a really interesting read as well as a great reference if you are interested in blacksmithing especially. the metallurgy research presented was of interest to me.

This is a fantastic book that shows facsimiles of an ancient tool chest of a blacksmith and\or handyman of sorts. Pictures galore. Highly recommended.

What an amazing book! Great stories. Great information. Well documented and it was hipped and arrives much earlier than expected. Sent one to a friend and the service was equally prompt.

Don` t buy! Buy directly from Larson publishing house. The pritning quality is really cheap on this skipjack press edition. The book itself contains an amazing wealth of information, top notch quality drawings and photographs reproduced in an utmost ungraceful way, the book binding is just pages glued togheter at the spine. No signatures at all and it` s quite annoying to read a text wich isn`t fully sharp. It` s an amazing resource but very cheaply printed. Quite shameful since the research has been executed very well, the find is an absolute treasure as well as the drawings and photographs are very decent.
