High end Edger!
I Love my Mclane Edger. Sure, it's a little more money than the competition, but you're also getting a commercial grade unit. One pull start every time. Intuitive controls. More than enough power.Overhead valve engine is very easy on gas.Leaves the lawn with that "Finished" look that make all the neighbors envious.Heavy duty machine. I expect it will last a lifetime if cared for correctly.

Rather disappointed in the product quality
Rather disappointed in the product quality. Paid more to get a Honda engine that I am constantly having issues with. The motor bogs down and dies unless I pull back on the edger. It seems I am always adjusting the carb. This is just for home use and I edge every week so it is should never be under heavy load.

Happy but Expensive
I was using an electric edger and then I got some Bahia grass replacement since I just pretty much had sand\dirt. The electric edger could not cut so I purchase a Troy with B&S motor. I based my purchase of the Troy Built gas edger based on Lowes online reviews. Well I found out later that Lowes only post positive reviews. I returned the junk. I did some additional research and found this edger. Not happy about the price. Very expensive for a gas edger but I bit the bullet and purchased it. Yeah baby... this is a nice gas edger. Built solid. Easy to assemble and starts quickly. Makes my life a little simpler. Thx.The only think I dislike about this edger is that they could have made oil opening more accessible. For that alone, I will only give 4 stars. Otherwise, it would have been a 5 star review.

It worked great the first 5 or 6 times
BEWARE! My husband wanted this edger because of the Honda engine. It worked great the first 5 or 6 times. The last time he started it up, it started and ran for a couple of minutes then died. Everytime he tries to run it, it dies. Here is the beware part. We bought this in June 2014.. Naturally, we thought warranty wouldn't be a problem. WRONG!! McLane doesn't warranty the engine. They sent us to the company they buy engines from. The gave us Honda repair places in our area but guess what? They won't repair the engine under the warranty. They gave us a song and dance about how atfer the engines are tested and put away that they can gum up...what??? Then they said that we cannot use fuel with ethanol...the book says "no more than 10% ethanol." Where we buy gas, it's 8%. We have other gas powered lawn equipment that uses the same gas...no problem. Right now, we have a very big and expensive paper weight.

McClane 4G-7-P edger is worth the money
I researched the internet for a recommended edger and settled on the McClane brand. I was planning to buy the 901 model but in the end decided to upgrade to the 4G model. I really didn't see a lot of differences between the two, but had a slight bias in favor of the Honda engine. Also, noted there was a lot of criticism regarding the throttle control on the 801/901 models. However, I assume that has been corrected by now anyway. The edger arrived in only a few days, sooner than I'd expected. It was a normal setup, mostly bolting on the handle and throttle control. I did have a panic attack when I tried to fill it with oil, as the filler location is directly in line with one of the rear wheels. I actually started to remove the wheels when I realized there is a spacer clip between the wheels that when removed allows you to slide the wheel out of the way.The engine started on the first pull and the edger is almost effortless to operate. I reclaimed about 3 inches of sidewalk in short order, with a nice clean cut on each side. What a difference this makes for a well manicured look to your lawn. I fully expect this product to do the job for 10 - 15 years on our corner lot with two driveways. If you want a quality product this is it.

Love this edger
I WAS using a Power Trim edger (which is a fine edger & more expensive than McLane) before this but it had a B&S 3.5 hp engine. Even when that edger was new (about 8 years ago), it would bog down very often while edging, especially on the first cut of the year. I doubt if I had over 200 hours on THAT engine. This McLane edger with this Honda GX120 4 horse engine does NOT bog down! I love it! What a difference the Honda engine makes! Spend the extra money on the Honda engine. It's worth it.By the way, the blades can be changed very easily. At the end of the blade pulley, you can insert a large Allen wrench and then unscrew the bolt that holds the blade on. My Power trim didn't have that. I always had to use a pipe wrench on the Power Trim. One of the front wheels on this McLane, actually blocked the front oil cap the way it was assembled when I got it. I cannot believe they designed it that way. Another reviewer had already pointed this problem out, so I had a heads up on this one---move the wheel over. There is a 'spacer clip' between the 2 wheels that just snaps off/on. Move the wheel over to the right to be next to the other front wheel. I then replaced the spacer to the side in front of the oil cap. It handles great with the wheels together, and now the oil cap is easily accessible.

A little disappointed
Everything I've purchased from Amazon.com has been impeccable. The shipping has been quick, the item completely as described and the price as quoted. However; it couldn't last forever. I bought this McLane edger because of the quality of the previous one I've owned. It's twice the price but you get what you pay for. This time, it wasn't complete. Small things for certain but diminishes the excitement of "new".I received 6 bolts and 5 nuts with which to install the hadle. OK, I happen to have spare parts and used a nylock nut from stock. Then, there was the missing throttle cable clip. This holds the throttle cable to the handle and prevents rubbing. OK, I had one in stock from a previous machine. Again, little things. Finally, while not included, there should be 2, 3/8" flat washers to put over the "height/angle" control rod. These washers in front of the cotter pins keep the rod from binding. While I'm at it, I replaced the cottor pins with "hairpin" clips because if there's a point of a cotter pin sticking out, I'll be sure to catch it and bleed all over my new machine.Overall, again, good service, great product but little nagging inconveniences.I will definitely continue to recommend this item and Amazon to friends.
