Works great
Burns CDs and DVDs very nicely even at the lowest and highest speeds. The noise isn't too loud and it reads discs perfectly. Super easy to set the whole thing up. 5/5

Nice Cheap Disc Burner
Works to burn discs, which is what I ordered it to do.

Go-to DVD-RW drive for computer builds
I've only ever used Lite-On optical drives in my computer builds, as they are always the cheapest, most dependable, and consistent drives to work with in my experience. This bare drive comes with nothing but the drive itself, and it's essentially plug and play. All you'll need in addition to this is a SATA cable to connect it to the motherboard; your power supply should have an extra SATA power cable to connect to it, and you're good to go. I've used this about 50 times in the last month and a half, for OS installation and for DVD burning, and have had no issues whatsoever. Great purchase for budget builds.

Bare drive, works, but needs f/w update for media compatibility it seems.
Bought the bare drive. I don't know if this is a Windows 10 thing or not, but at first the drive seemed to not be recognized properly (BIOS saw it, Device Manager saw it, nothing in File Explorer).. However, when I discovered it was assigned a drive letter in Disk Management, I decided to try putting a disc in the drive and like magic it suddenly popped up in File Explorer. So, that was 1 mystery solved. Now, I bought it to burn a bunch of ISOs to DVD. Good news, the drive works with the 16x Philips DVD-R discs I bought. Bad news, it does not like the TDK DVD+R DL discs I bought and most of the ISOs are too big to fit on 4.7 GB. I know the discs are not defective, as they work fine in the LG Blu-Ray burner on my other PC. What seemed to be called for was a firmware update, but like many PC makers, LIte-On now has you download a "smart" play program to check for firmware updates. According to it, there is no newer firmware update at this time. So, I replaced an old Lite-On drive with this drive. Problem with the old DVD burner? If it didn't have a disc in it, you then had to use a paperclip to open the disc tray. if you keep a disc in it, it opens fine; there's a drive on my work PC like that, too. Old drive burned to the DL discs I fine, though. Old drive was an old Lite-On parallel IDE drive, not a SATA drive. SO, it just feels like I swapped one functionality for another. Anyway, not a bad drive for the price, just not a great, wonderful, exceptional drive either. And I hope they (Lite-On) release some new firmware for media compatibility soon!! At this point, I am almost tempted to put the old parallel burner back in the computer.

Trying Something New
I've used Lite-on drives in previous builds, but never this model. I had decided to keep my old XP machine to use off-line while in the process of building a Windows 7 machine so I didn't attempt to install these older drives in my newer computer (one 9 year old Sony, and one 8 year old Lite-on, neither of which have given me any problems).I tried to load the new Win7 OS with a new and highly rated ASUS drive with no luck......it just kept returning errors on my installation. I decided to go with this drive, even though there are some less expensive ones that are Win7 compatible. I actually purchased 2 of these "bare drives" (comes with no software) to make it easier to copy DVD's. There are many adequate free DVD copy programs available (Google it). This IHAS124-14 started right up and installed the OS flawlessly. I have since use both drives to install additional software without any problems. No software disk came with these, but they were plug n play for my motherboard. Also, make sure you have a spare SATA cable to connect these to the mother board. This drive is fairly quiet during operation. I've copied 6 CD;s and 4 DVD's so far without incident, and all copies burned perfectly on the first try (guessing I'm lucky, as I was not using the most expensive media to make copies to).So far I'm impressed with these drives, and glad I made the purchase. I might add that the read speed is up to par, but the write speed seemed a tad bit slower than advertised (just an impression), but fast enough for me.If any problems occur, I will update this review accordingly.

Waste
Constant miscompare issues in imgburn, eject button didn’t work out of the box, eventually failed to recognize discs after 4 uses
