1:48 scale model of the Grumman F6F Hellcat; with details appropriate for first operational F6F's to see combat, flown by VF-9 'Cat-'o-Nines' from the USS Essex (CV-9) during the raids on Wake Island and Rabul in late 1943. New in the box, these Hellcats include rockets, a drop tank, options for two different canopy configurations, and landing gear for both retracted and deployed display. Has a wingspan of 10-5/8"; overall length 8-1/2". The aircraft is finished in airbrushed two-tone blue and white camo paint scheme and marked with the short-lived red outlined star insignia that was used from June to September 1943. The VF-9 squadron insignia is also visible just below the cockpit, as is one Japanese 'victory' flag. Partially assembled. Easy, snap-together glueless assembly required; fully illustrated instructions included. (The wings and the landing gear need to be attached.) There are small parts, so recommended for ages 5+.

Great scale model for the price
I only buy scale models which are already assembled and painted with decals. This is exactly what I wanted for my scale model collection. It is all plastic, so the weight is not a problem for my stacking acrylic display cases. It is very detailed and beautifully finished. You will love this.

Might as well be a desktop model
Not as cool as earlier models where you could retract landing gear, had dudes you could put in the cockpit, ordnance you could take off or put on...

This is a highly detailed, pre-made model. The quality for the price is great! I purchased the other F6F as well and am very happy with both. They're awesome display pieces.

'Looks better than my hand made 1
I mis-read the product description, and received a snap-tite. 'Looks better than my hand made 1:48s, but it wasn't what I was after. It turned out really cool, but took about 3 minutes to assemble. I should have waited for my grandson to show up to help me:-)

Highly detailed. Looks good next to more expensive models on display in my den.May purchase other models. Very satisfied with this model.
