RichellExpandable Walk-Thru Pet Gate Brown, Small

I purchased 2 gates, the Richell Expandable and the Munchkin Loft, with the goal of relegating our dogs to one room in the house. I would have purchased two Loft gates for aesthetic reasons, but I needed the extra width that the Richell provided. The Richell gate functions beautifully, was straightforward to install, and the auto-close mechanism functions well. The plastic hardware feels a little cheap to me, but also appears par for the course on pet/baby gates. One thing I did not understand before purchasing, is that you must LIFT the gate on the latch side in order to open. This would likely be a non-issue if the gate is placed between two rooms, but I have placed on a stair landing (similar to the promo picture). It's easy enough to open going down because you have sufficient leverage, but if you're going up, it's a slight challenge. More so for my 5'5" tall wife and even more so if you're carrying a baby or laundry or whatnot. So only 4 stars for the open mechanism and the plastic components. Having seen the competition however, I'd still buy again and strongly recommend.

It is a nice gate that installed relatively quickly. The hardware included is very cheaply made. Two pieces broke on install and I am now struggling trying to find a way to get the replacement pieces.Those of you who have very chewy puppies, I would image the gate would be a good chew toy. I'm a little nervous about it, but so far so good, but I have only had it installed for two days. To avoid the likelihood of chewing I put it close enough to the edge of the step so there isn't much room for him to sit comfortably and chew.If the manufacturer/seller reads this please contact me so I can get replacement hardware.

Installation was fairly simply, they look really nice and seem to be sturdy, the only problem is both gates that I bought no longer close by themselves after only being up a month. The first one to quit closing by itself was one that I use to put something in front of to hold open at times, so I figured I caused it myself. The second one stopped closing by itself about a week later and I didn't hold it open like I had done the other one. Really not a problem for me, but if you need a gate to always close after you walk though it might ought to check elsewhere.

We are using the gates for our dogs. It functions well and looks great. The gate is adjustable but not retractable, so whatever width you set is the width it stays; so if you need to leave it open for any length of time, you have to find a way to prop it open. Our little chihuahua can't get through the bars or under it, so job done!

I can't say enough good things about this product. We previously used the standard expandable wood pet gate but it was very cumbersome. This opens easily and closes on its own if properly installed. I wish I had seen a product like this years ago; it would've saved a lot of bending over and kicking legs over the old expandable gate we used to have.

Seemed like a decent gate, however I had to return it because it did not have a height dimension listed and once I got it and tried installing it, I realized it was too tall for the place I was putting it. We were attempting to put it at the top of stairs that have a wall on one side and a banister/railing on the other side (split level home). The gate was too tall and we had nowhere to attach the hardware to on the banister side.

I bought it as a dog pet gate. Not too difficult to install. I like it because it is a "walk thru" as it has no bar at the bottom. It is light and closes automatically.

Well constructed but my guests cannot figure it out. They can't figure out to lift it.

Delivery took WEEKS. So if you need it sooner, I'd buy a different gate.The looks is nice and material is solid. It matches our above garage patio fencing all around so that was a perfect fit. It's not tension based at all. So you need to have wood or drywall on both sides to screw it in, therefore not as "universally" compatible as it seems. We have one wood pillar luckily at our patio walkway and its metal on the other side. Had to tie strap the "clips" to a metal pole to get them to stay there. Not great.The hinges are creaky and LOUD. WD40 fixed this. The weight of the gate when extended weights heavily on the screws attaching it. It's poorly designed in this way and we're only extending it a few inches.Top screw can't be drilled in without an extension bit, and even then the gate blocks the hole.Overall the materials are good. The look is sleek. The design isn't good. You also have to slide the lock AND lift if you want to open the gate. We taped the bottom clip in so it wouldn't lock at the bottom, just the top. It's heavy to lift and if you're carrying something it doesnt work, requires two hands. Not sure why... pets can't unlock the sliding lock. Maybe for toddlers? *shrugs* Was a bit pricey for what it is to be honest.

Excellent quality, I will probably never take it down.
