Review: The author, Dr. Ben Lynch, is a genius, with the intent to help people heal. - Love this book! It's a must read with the intent of implementing the suggestions for those Seeking Health. With multiple, serious, health issues I was already living pretty clean, but Dr. Ben Lynch took it to the next level. I feel like my old self, that has been gone for decades, and I am finally sleeping at night. Dr. Lynch owns a supplement company, (Seeking Health), but doesn't believe you should take a lot of supplements or keep taking them forever, only for short periods in the journey. He doesn't say things like, "Take B12." Instead he explains what is happening in the cascading hormones that are involved, what they need, and when they don't need that particular supplement anymore. I found Dr. Ben Lynch by listening to him as a guest on podcasts from multiple different hosts when I was researching some genetic issues. I was so impressed with him (he's the go-to guy in the world of epigenetics), that I had to get his book and the audio version so that my husband and I could listened to it on a long drive home from a trip. We were both 'sold' on what he said, it filled in so many of the gaps of information I was looking for. I generally look for what the author/podcaster is self-promoting with his version of health and I'm usually skeptical, but I trust this guy, that he truly is on a mission to find health in real ways and share what he learns. He received four different medical degrees along the way as he searched out how he and his family could heal. All four degrees combine to allow Dr. Lynch a comprehensive understanding of what is happening in your body and what needs to happen to heal, and it's not Big Pharma. He's very common sense, but brilliant. I usually find that people with IQs' as high as his struggle to explain things in ways that the typical person could follow, but he does a great job explaining all the methylation and what that means in a very compassionate, relatable, and comprehensive way. He might be the person with the answers you are looking for. Check him out as a guest on a few podcasts, then get his book. My book arrived from this seller quickly in perfect condition. Review: If you buy no other book on health, buy this one! - I participated in a live FB webcast with Dr. Lynch, and he is just phenomenal at taking something complex like genetics and explaining their effect on health while giving people a practical guide as to how they can work WITH their unique genetics to regain or improve their health. He takes the unpopular but mostly true stance that our health destinies are not written in stone by our genes, but are influenced, both positively and negatively not just by genes, but by diet, lifestyle, toxic exposures, stress, and even mindset. In the book, he identifies the seven genes which, when "dirty", have the greatest impact on our health and well-being, and explains that a gene can be "dirty" (not functioning optimally) either because of nature (genetics) or nurture (environment). He recommends a 2 week "soak and scrub", during which time a person can function on "cleaning" all of their genes - focusing on diet, exercise, sleep, stress relief, and avoidance of toxins to the extent possible. After that period of time, if a person is still having issues, they can do what he calls "spot cleaning" of specific genes - MTHFR (methylation),PEMT (choline/phosphatidylcholine, important for cell membranes, liver, digestive, and brain health), DAO (diamine oxidase, breaks down histamine in the gut), MAOA (monoamine oxidase - breaks down/helps regulate neurotransmission, mood), NOS3 (produces endothelial nitric oxide, important for cardiovascular health/blood pressure regulation), GST/GPX (glutathione, the body's master antioxidant and important for detoxification), and COMT (metabolizes catecholamines, also involved in mood/personality). And the good thing for the majority of readers is that genetic testing isn't necessarily required, because Dr. Lynch includes a checklist for each gene that a person can use to assess whether or not that gene is or is behaving "dirty" and needs attention. Personally, I like having the hard data, but both methods are useful, since even a mutated gene may NOT be causing problems if it is being properly supported. He also includes a recipe section, with descriptions as to how they support each of these genes and recommendations for modifications if you have issues with different ones. He also has a recommended ORDER for "spot cleaning" if you have multiple issues that need to be targeted specifically. The nature/nurture argument has been going on for decades, but I feel that Dr. Lynch has made an excellent case for concluding that it really isn't either/or but BOTH, and this book is a wonderful tool that people can use in order to take charge of their own individual health.

This book is amazing read it, buy it, you will thank yourself later
I wish I had had this book about 12 years ago and my health wouldn't be in the state it is now. I had implants put in me and were in me for 14 years valves never closed and I believe this contributed to my environmental dirty genes. Highly toxic chemicals in shell. Anyhow I had some really bad "born" dirty genes too. I did some genetic testing and some other tests prior to reading Dr. Lynch's book but there were some things I just couldn't understand or seem to find anyone who could interpret all of these. I haven't even finished the book but I couldn't put it down today and am almost already through it. I have so many dirty genes and I think a lot of it was caused by my toxic implants. I luckily got them taken out 2 years ago and I have a 52 page report confirming just how toxic and pathogenic they were. I was literally so excited to read this book because it really tells you everything you need everything I have been looking for as far as what nutrients you need, recipes to eat even, and so forth and so forth. If I were to pick out what I would have wanted in his book before he wrote it I would have picked exactly what he wrote. It explains every question I haven't been able to get answered in years. An NMD I have was able to touch on some of the things in his book but not all. I dido another reviewer if you read only one book for your health read this one! $20 it's well worth the $20. I would have bought it for way more and it still would have been wroth it. Dr. Ben Lynch thank you and you ROCK!

Interesting, fascinating, new, and difficult in understanding the connections
The topic is.new and potentially heplful. Genes are not your destiny and you can work with them. I will have to re read to grasp it better, esp the two le wl cleaning procedure which cohld have been organized a bit morw transparent but they are still valuable. Thank you for.this. I.discovered some lifelong connections to work on. The graphs are great and worth to.memorize. This makes the gene slower., that makes it.faster. not.all supplemens work well dor everyone, a certain amount of guessing, trial will be necessary. I recommend the book for all who took the test.

Keeper!
While I'm thrilled for Dr. Lynch and those of us who are benefiting from his essential work I'm also in no small way horrified by the success of this book. The popularity and world-wide distribution speak for themselves: we live in an increasingly dirty world and clearly need new tools to optimize our health! I found Dirty Genes when a life-long, mild histamine intolerance suddenly became acute and debilitating after treating Lyme disease. My histamine research led me to Dr. Ben and now, 5 months into learning about epigenetics, I'm more consistently stable, starting to be able to diversify my diet again and sleeping through the night for the first time in decades. The information Dirty Genes offers is comprehensive, well-organized and easily referenced for continued study. I’ve attached a photo of my sticky-noted copy. It’s written to be utilized both in and of itself as well as paired with our own DNA results for a more personalized (and fascinating) perspective. Dr. Lynch also generously shares his knowledge via his websites (Strategene, Seeking Health, Drbenlynch.com), as well as Facebook Live sessions & YouTube videos. Two subjects I’d love more information on from Dr. Lynch’s perspective are 1.) root causes and how to know when we’ve gotten to them and 2.) pulse-dosing. I’ve worked with NDs for all my adult life and surprisingly, this is a new concept for me. I find it tricky, particularly after not feeling well for so long, to know which supplements need to be used this way and how to know when to apply these principles; I often crash when trying. Overall, this is one of those rare and wonderful resources you’ll want to buy for everyone! I'm grateful for the opportunity to finally start optimizing my health, not just cope. Thank you, Dr. Ben - Bravo & Encore!

Science for everyday life
Loved this book. Science and biology are explained nicely, and it offers practical steps to take to improve your health. It's a resource book, so you may want to use it again depending on the particular problem you are trying to resolve. Highly recommended.

A worthwhile purchase even after following this approach 2-3 years
I pre-ordered last year and as the book is still on its way to Australia I’m currently listening to the audiobook version on Audible. I’m about halfway through at the moment and finding the book valuable and pitched well to cover a wide range of readers. I’ve been working on understanding my own epigenetic story for a couple of years, following Dr Lynch and others, making changes and supplementing with great results (chemical sensitivities, histamine issues, fatigue). However I’ve still got a way to go. I’m really happy to say that I’m still learning lots from the book, and I haven’t seen the supplementary material yet. Today I recognised myself in the story of Blake with the fast COMT. I’ve never paid much attention to my COMT despite plenty of SNPs there, never really understood it enough. Understand a few things clear as a bell now and am already making some changes there. Interestingly, I recently had a performance review and told my manager I always do better at work when I have protein for breakfast so always try to ensure I do this. Now I better understand the relationship between COMT, tyrosine, dopamine and stress and have really felt the difference now that I actually ensure to have the right protein/amino acid three times a day. Really happy with how much you address synthetic chemicals/fragrances in the book Ben, thanks! I’m hoping friends and family will want to borrow and read Dirty Genes!

MUST READ
You won’t regret reading this book. Changed the game for me! So much valuable and applicable information that’s genuinely interesting to read!! Great if you’re curious to get to root cause of your day to day ailments and health struggles. Good resource if you want to know more about MTHFR gene mutations. Transformed my view of genetics!

Genetics explained for everyone
I've been struggling with an autoimmune disease, chronic insomnia and many other health issues for more than a decade. Reading this book has helped me identify many dirty genes I have never considered before. It is really easy and interesting to read. I like that he focus on lifestyle changes instead of selling you his supplements life I've seen with other authors. I definitely recommend it.

Book of the year!
This book is just incredible! I have followed Dr Lynch for quite a few years now while trying to sort out my own health issues. And wow, has it helped. I did a genetic testing for my whole family and it really has helped a lot to understand what is going on. With simple tweaks and lifestyle changes, we can clean up our genes. And it is so simple! You do not need to invest on genetic testing. He walks you through the most common and researched dirty genes and what to do with them. What this book teaches you is to listen to your body, which is not what we often do. Cleaning up your diet, working on your circadian rhythm, stress response, diet and supplementation can have a huge impact on your life. The hardcopy is not available in the UK yet so I had to purchase a kindle version. I have already pre ordered copies to friends and family. Thank you so much for making this information available to everyone.
