These are the ones to buy for your kids! Surprisingly good and feature-packed.
NOTE: This is a rave review. And legit. I bought these and held my breath — but I'm happy to report my breath wasn't wasted. If you've done any walkie-talkie research, you'll know there are tons of 2-way options at various price points. Many have impressive 4.5/5-star reviews – except when you read the reviews, suspicion ensues. Many 2-ways have limited features, useless features, or fatal flaws (I include proprietary batteries as a fatal flaw.)My mission was simple: find a low-cost, longish-range walkie-talkie set for the kids when we go hiking, or when they go bike-riding around the block. I was leaning strongly to Motorola, or Raveis, or the other lookalike Chinese models with funky names. But then I saw these and took a shot. Glad I did.UPSIDES:• I can hear my kids all the way around the block. And far enough in the woods. (I haven't done a rigorous distance test yet, but I'm pleased so far.)• At $39.99, that's $10 per walkie-talkie. Beat that.• AAA battery power. I use rechargeables.• The battery cover doesn't fall off.• EASY customization and programming.• The belt clip works.• Headset jack (I bought inexpensive IFREQTECH earbud/mic set at 2/$12)• Vox-activated option• 22 channels with many privacy codes within each channel.• Easy-to-understand instructions.• It has a wee flashlight feature. And a light-up screen.• Somehow, the kids all remember their individually-programmed personal call-signal tone.• Pick your color!• They're cheap enough that when one or two go missing or bricked, no hard feelings. I'll just buy another.DOWNSIDES:• There are a few annoyances that are too minor to mention here.• I don't think it's waterproof, but we haven't dunked any yet.• IF these go south, I'll post an update.SUMMARY:• If you're a hiker, biker, parent, student, adventurer and don't want to spend tedious hours cross-checking the walkie-talkie section here on Amazon, just buy these. The price is right and the quality is adequate — probably more than adequate.• Five stars.

Awesome walkie talkies
We bought a set of these for camping and they were a great help. Everyone in our group held one the these, we were never more than 2 miles apart for the whole trip, communication was smooth, the sound was very loud, and we were very happy with The VOX function, we can clip the radio on our shoulder and don't need to press the PTT when want to talk. The battery lasted the whole day during our trip which is great, the instruction says it may vary in different frequencies but for ours they last long enough. There are more features in these walkie-talkies than I can list here, such as squelch, CTCSS, and 'roger tones', that make them perfect for any working conditions, including a professional work environment. In the video, I was talking to a friend 2 blocks away, and the actual range was more than I expected. I would definitely recommend this product.

Great walkies
These worked great. The only thing that would have made these better is if it had a charging station as well . These take batteries. But they worked well for what I needed them for.

Good radios for the money
We were looking for inexpensive radios that would provide good sound quality for training purposes. We are in the public safety sector and provide training for public safety personnel in which we practice radio communications during simulation training. We have used various radios over the years, including department's radios, with varying degrees of effectiveness. Using a department's radios is not always practical due to different departments in a training session, or sometimes the effectiveness of the radio is poor due to its location. So, we tried these to see if they would provide the coverage and sound quality we needed. We used these throughout the training building without any sound quality issues. The coverage was good, even being inside a concrete building. Clarity was good, and the radios are fairly easy to use.I cannot speak well to battery life as we have not had them for long. However, after two days of near constant use, the battery levels were still at the highest levels. As for use, the transmit button is a bit small, and was occasionally missed by the person using the radio, but I've seen similar problems with regular radios as well. It took a bit to turn off all the "noise" functions (beep when pressing a button, transmit tones, etc), but the ability to change channels and add a privacy setting worked great. We had no interference from outside. If I have any complaint, it is that the earpiece must be specific to the radio. The seller had to provide me with the earpiece information as I could not find it through a simple search on Amazon. We had tried another before the seller provided the information to find theirs, and it did not allow for any of the radio's functions to work, and it left the radio in constant transmit mode. Now, to rate the seller: I have to give the seller five (5) stars. They have been fantastic. They had contacted us after our purchase, and have assisted us with any questions or follow-up we've had. The first day we tried the radios, we had two that would not work. We checked the batteries and switched brands without any luck. The seller immediately replaced them, and they have been great since. No other problems. When we had difficulty finding earpieces, once again, the seller was quick to point us in the right direction and sent them to us quicker than had been expected. By the way, the earpieces specific to the radios were the same price, or less, than other earpieces I had considered. The seller has been fantastic.I cannot speak to how far they will travel, but these are perfect for our needs. Small, lightweight, easy to use, good sound quality, and the seller makes sure you are satisfied. I'd recommend these.

Almost but not quite
Pros: Easy to use, affordable, decent range, good sound quality, compactCons: Just one but it's a real pain. The button that is on there for the flashlight is very easy to hit accidently which leads to my batteries being perpetually dead. You have to protect that button. You can't just stick them in a backpack or a drawer or the light will drain the battery.
