All corn can be processed into homniy, some varieties better than others however. You did not ask but being a life long lover of grits, and having purchased and prepared grits from almost all over the country, Texas, southern states, I can say without any reservation that these "low country" SC grits are the best. Make sure you purchase yellow grits by the way. Add a smidgen of baking soda to the water (too much makes them bitter) to soften the outer layers of each grit. I cook them for about 3 to 4 hours on lowest heat and add milk after the initial 4 cups or 2 cups of water are aborbed or boiled away in order to keep them moist until cooking is completed.

Are these gluten free?

Yes these are gluten free. Corn contains corn gluten. It is NOT the same as the wheat gluten that causes problems for some people. And no gluten of any type is shown on the ingredient list on my bag.

Where are these grits gown originally? are they sourced in sc and if so where? thank you.

How long do you have to cook them?

It’s been a long time, but I think it’s around 40 minutes from what I can see from the photo of the product. You also need to rinse it 2-3 times before cooking, to remove the chaff.
