I know this is meant for cd/dvd but those pockets where you put the cd/dvd in, when you take them out do the cds/dvd get scratch from the pocket ?

I have never had any issues with a CD or DVD getting scratched. The envelopes are clear plastic on one side and "soft synthetic" on the other. (It kind of feels like cloth but I'm sure it is a nylon of some sort.) I will state that I keep it clean. I tuck it out of the way when I'm not using it and I keep it zipped up at all times. It will either stay in my car or on a dresser of wherever I'm staying. I don't take it out to the park or to the beach. I'm sure that if sand or dirt got inside of the case it would be a bad thing.Just an FYI, I've owned this case since maybe 2006 or 2008.

Does this lie flat when open?

When just the cover is open to the left it will stay open but it doesn't stay flat on table surface. When at least one page of DVDs is flipped to the left on top of it the cover does lie flat on table surface. Hope this helps!

Are the CD sleeves removable from the case? (I have a super-old Case Logic case that had this. Zipper finally broke.)
