Only as a last ditch solution.
Does the job, though rather overpriced for what it is. I used this a couple times on a bare roof vehicle and quickly discovered the following things:- It's really awkward and cumbersome to use this way, and just not practical for frequent use. Especially if you're shorter/weaker and getting the board up in position is already somewhat challenging - doing it while tryingnot to knock the blocks too far out of position on the board makes it harder. (I'm a woman of average height, with an average height sedan, with a pretty average board, with decent upper body strength - and it was pretty tough for me.)- The foam quickly started to tear around the openings at the ends. For the price they should add something to reinforce it there.- The straps going through the car are annoying.- I hadn't thought about it before purchase, but then I read about the possibility of the straps interfering with side airbags and confirmed that would indeed be the case on my vehicle.- As some folks mention, you do have to be careful about positioning the blocks and not denting the roof. (Despite my reading about that and telling my husband, he promptly misplaced the blocks, cranked down on the thing, and dented my roof. Fortunately popped right back.)- If your roof has much of a curve, and you put the blocks more towards the front and back of your roof (where they're less likely to dent the roof and provide a wider base for the board) the blocks will be at an angle and making less contact with the board. I choose to glue strips of rubber padding to the bottom of the blocks to make the top surfaces wind up flat. It works better but it's ugly, covers up the special bottom surface, and probably invalidates some warranty or something.- I did need to pay attention to putting twists in the straps in all the right places to prevent terrible wind noise (which makes it even more tedious to use.) Took a couple attempts and test drivers to figure out the right way to do this.I went with this because I thought it would be ok, and I originally couldn't find a decent roof rack to fit my vehicle. After trying this I looked harder and did discover a type of rack that would fit my car (that didn't also use stuff like straps through the car or suction cups.) It is 20 times faster and easier for me to load the board on the car and tie it down now, so I will do it a lot more. I'm still using the foam blocks on the rack since I have them, but if I didn't I would buy some more streamlined pads. I'm still using the load straps from the set, but they're pretty long for tying directly to a rack so I may ditch them for some shorter ones I happen to have. Bottom line, I figure this is ok for very occasional use, or maybe to take someplace and use on some other vehicle like a rental, or if you really have no alternative. But for me it was a waste of money.

Great product, great price
This product is a very economical way to carry two paddleboards around town on top of a car without a roof rack. You really can't beat the price.I will note that I would NOT feel comfortable hauling two boards on the interstate using only the included straps - the product comes with 2 "cam buckle" straps that can be cinched down relatively tight, but not to the point that I would feel comfortable with them at 70+ MPH (your comfort level might vary, I'm pretty cautious). I'll also note as other reviewers did that the straps will wick water into your car very rapidly if you are driving through the rain (really, a surprising amount of water...). If you are using the kit and expect rain, bring towels to catch the water and expect to get wet.For us, we use the 2 cambuckle straps for short haul trips on backroads or country highways - if we are going to be on the interstate, we use 4 ratchet straps (2 per board) to strap each board down individually. (Note that we have boards with thermoformed plastic shells, similar to a kayak - if you have a fiberglass board, you definitely would NOT want to do this, as you would almost definitely crease/crush the rails on your board with the ratchet strap).

Okay, but not great.
We have two paddle boards. My husband's is a giant barge and mine is a performance board. We have a Thule rack installed on our Forrester, but we didn't want to have to keep using an old yoga mat to space the two out and prevent damage to each other. Initially we bought this set just to have the spacers. It was a very affordable solution. When our car got wrecked, we had a rental but we still wanted to use our boards while the car with in the shop. We were fortunate to have the entire roof set already purchased. The first time we used it the [green] straps came loose while we were on the highway and the boards spun sideways a little. That was kind of terrifying. We really had made sure they were on tight and correctly, but they just came loose - maybe the wind on the highway was too intense? The second time we used to whole kit, the small, black straps that go into the foam separators broke - the plastic fastener on the strap just broke - maybe too much tension this time?Either way, I don't believe this is a long-lasting product for it's intended use. The straps aren't very sturdy but the foam pieces are outstanding. I think this product is good if you're in a pinch or need something temporarily, otherwise I would suggest investing in a more permanent/sturdy solution.

Versatile, Secure & Easy to Use Racks for Surfboards & SUPs
These racks securely hold surfboards and SUPs onto a variety of vehicles. I've used them to carry longboards and SUPs on the roofs of a Toyota Corolla, a Dodge Charger and a Ford Focus for hour-long trips to the beach without any issues.Their convenience makes them worth packing for travel. Recently, I checked them into a duffel bag and flew them to Maui for a week of surfing and SUPing. They were super easy to take on and off many times a day and can be used with just about any rental car.Like others say, twist the straps a few times before tightening, put the loose strap ends back into the car and the racks will quietly carry the boards anywhere. Also, as other reviewers note, you do have to watch how tight you make the straps to avoid denting car roofs. To avoid denting, set the blocks far apart so they are resting over sturdy sections of the roof (i.e., the front block near the windshield and the rear block near the back window). The green hold-down straps can be tightened between the blocks and the boards will stay in place without any roof dents.

Product works great for two boards
Product works great for two boards! Used it on our hatchback with no roof racks and it preformed great on the highway and in town. It was a bit noisey when we went over 120kph, but stayed put. Also we left it on the roof during very heavy rain and the interior of the car got soaked. We were surprised we had to pay $30 in customs on top of what was already a pricey set of straps, but we're happy with the product.
