Best for Someone New to the Subject
I found this to be a frustrating compendium of UFO/alien/unknown creatures. If you've read at least a half dozen books on UFOs and/or alien abduction topics, you'd probably find this book only somewhat interesting. This would be a good book for someone who's kind of interested in the topic, but doesn't really know where to start. You get a good overview of the different types of entities that people have encountered, and also a good overview of the wide range of experiences from frightening, mystical to just plain weird. So what are some of the good things about this book? Well, first off it's well-written. Next it does cover a large number of cases, including many that experienced UFO book readers probably won't be familiar with. There are also lots of resource materials listed, so you can go down as many rabbit holes as you want if you are interested in reading more about these cases. Finally, in spite of my complaints, the book does what it sets out to do, which is to give an overview to the subject. The authors aren't trying to be the ultimate answer on these cases, since this is part of a series of books to introduce those curious about specific subjects to the topic. On the slightly annoying front for me is the organization. The chapters are broken up by types of creatures encountered, government involvement, types of encounters, etc., etc. Sometimes the chapters seem a bit too specific, and other times a bit too broad, and quite frequently there are cases listed in one chapter that I felt would have fit better in another chapter. Also, while I appreciated discovering new cases, the text wasn't footnoted, so I was unable to easily figure out which books in the bibliography might give me more information about the case. Finally, the book itself is oddly put together. It is a larger format book, so it's not really aomething that's easy carry with you. A decision was made that it would be more interesting to have drawings commissioned from artists to illustrate the text. Art is subjective, so I won't review the artwork, other than to say the artwork was more frustrating than helpful in giving visuals for what is being discussed in the text. Personally, I would have preferred more photographs or even traditional illustrations to explain the text. I must also mention that the cover is not enticing. It definitely wasn't the cover artwork that drew me to purchase this book. I found the cover artwork more distracting than helpful. So, if you're just starting out reading about aliens and UFOs, this would probably be a good place for you to start. The cases don't usually take up more than a couple of pages, with most only 4 or 5 paragraphs, so you can read the book in small spurts to make it more enjoyable for the reader. If you've read at least 5-6 other books on the topic, you may find this disappointing. If you are looking for an overview of the subject, this would be a good choice. If you need good visuals to help you with the descriptions of the events, you will find this book frustrating. Either way you decide, Brad and Sherry Steiger have put a lot of years of research into this topic, and are quite knowledgeable on the subject. If you want a more substantial and in-depth look at the topic, go elsewhere.

Disappointing--Nothing new here!
Brad and Sherry Steiger once wrote a good, timely book about UFO's entitled "The Rainbow Conspiracy" (1994). I guess that I was expecting some sort of update about UFO's in this latest Opus by the Steigers. Unfortunately, there is nothing new here. All of the old famous stories and reports are repeated in this book. If one compares the bibliography of "The Rainbow Conspiracy" with this new book, one sees that there were many MORE books and articles referenced back in 1994 (with the same titles showing up here). There are NO photos of UFO's in this new book, only photos of the authors, J. Allen Hynek, a supposed MIB, and the contributors. Rather, the book is full of weird drawings of fictional aliens. Also, there are no footnotes anywhere (a characteristic of Steigers' books, unfortunately). There are pages and pages of reports submitted to the Steigers by readers or callers, none of which can be looked into or verified. I guess that we are expected to believe every one of these reports! In all fairness to the authors, this books seems to be a sort of primer for people who know nothing about UFO's. Apparently, it is meant to be part of a series of books about such topics as miracles, secret societies, ghosts, monsters, vampires, zombies, werewolfs, etc., to list the keywords found in their most recent book titles. I guess that they forgot that they once wrote a good book about UFO's and that people such as myself might be expecting something similar or better. So, if you are someone who has read many books about UFO's over the years, you will be very disappointed with this one, as you will not learn anything new here.P.S. A pet peeve of mine are the claims that aliens have come here from certain star systems (such as Epsilon Bootes, Upsilon Bootes, Aldebaran, and the Pleiades in this book) that are not likely to have habitable planets in them, for scientific reasons. The authors clearly are interchanging the two stars Epsilon and Upsilon Bootes in this book (pages 126 and 242) and have left unchallenged the statement that Upsilon Bootes is 103 million light years away! In fact, this star (a K5 giant, single star) is only 192 LY's away. By comparison, the Andromeda Galaxy is about 2.5 million LY's away (much closer than the 103 million LY's claimed for Upsilon Bootes). This lack of scientific accuracy and understanding makes me shy away from books such as this.

A Must Read
This book is a must read for everyone who is interested in the unknown. To understand a subject we need to educate ourselves on what is going on in the area we are interested in. This book shares many interesting encounters with the unknown by those who have lived it first hand. Reading what others have lived through can make us all far more prepared for strange events that we may one day faceOne never knows when they will be the next to find they are staring all alone into the eyes of the unknown. Having read how others handled extreme events can only help the rest of us be prepared for a day it may happen to us.I think this is one book all of us need to readChris Michaels HollyChris Holly's Paranormal World

FRESH not STALE for a change
This book is chock full of new material. Not another book with the same ole' stuff we've all read in this book or that one. Steiger and his wife really did some tedious research and compiled a great collection of NEW material. If you read about this stuff as much as I do, I am constantly searching for ANYTHING I have not already come across before. I cannot express how really appreciative I am of this compendium of metaphysic material. It really is fun and downright intriguing to always keep an open mind. I do not always believe everything I read but it is important to say to yourself, "What if?"
