Installed it on my series 186 standard length barrel Mini 14. The rifle already has a John Masen muzzle brake device and a Choate slotted handguard. The Accu Strut Socom version gives the rifle the lines of an M14 and looks great. Took my Mini from a 9 ring shooter at 100 yards to a 10 ring shooter. The groups do not open up when the barrel is hot. It isn't an X ring shooter but will hold the 10 ring all day. Doesn't slide up the barrel from recoil. I used blue locktite on the clamp screws and wrapped electric tape around the strut where the bottom clamp contacts it to give an extra grip. Color me satisfied!

duh
Nothing gets 5 stars, unless it has pretty girls involved. Unit is well made and and matched the existing SS finish perfectly.

Wow, It Worked!
After struggling with my stock stainless 581-series for the better part of four years, trying darn near every optic, ring, and mount combination in the book, I decided to give one of these a try. I have spent more time with this rifle than any other I own, and I know full well what it is/is not capable of. My Mini is currently wearing Ruger low SS rings and a Weaver V-3 scope. Installation of the Accu Strut was a breeze, taking only 15 minutes or so. I opted to not drill the dimples as other have mentioned. However, for better or for worse, I did use plenty of the supplied loctite! At the range the accuracy improvement was substantial. Using low end PMC Bronze 55 grain FMJ rounds, my 50-yard groups tightened up to 1" from roughly 2", and my 100-yard groups tightened up from 4-6" to 3-4", not tack driving results but the best performance to date. Additionally, I did not experience a single "flyer" in the course of firing 100 rounds, something that has NEVER, EVER occurred before with any of my range trips with this rifle. At the completion of this trip, the strut was as tight and secure as it was at the beginning.

Ruger Mini 14/30 Accu Strut 4" Socom Stainless Steel 1 Clamp
I have a ruger mini 30 stainless; It's the new design. I was getting 4" groups at 100 yards with hornady ballistic tips; a.k.a. Hornady Z-Max; My buddy who is not a gunsmith but has passed all the gunsmith courses recommended this accu strut. I placed the strut on using the instructions that came with it and My group size is now 1MOA and occasionally I get 1.5" groups. Using the same ammo; Hornady Z-max 123 grain. This device works absolutely. Yes it took about 20 shots for it to get "settled in" but once it "settled in" it's going to improve your accuracy by 75% if you use a stainless ruger mini 30. I endorse this product absolutely. I spent hundreds of dollars on testing so I am going to save you time. Buy this accu strut right now. It essentially increased my max effective range by a few hundred yards.

Literature received with the Strut stated that it would not improve the accuracy of my mini 14 - Duh??? That makes it an Accu-rip off!

Does not improve accuracy for tappered barrel(newer mini's)
Well to start it off the product is what is described (in a sense)...the company does provide you with every tool (including locktite) to mount the accu strut. What the company doesn't tell you is that the product doesn't increase accuracy for the newer tapered barrel models. Mine is a 2013 ruger mini with the ATI body. So essentially I purchased an esthetic part for almost a $100. I will say it does give it the M14 look which is cool. As far as accuracy goes it didn't get my rifle shooting any better, although my newer mini is shooting 1MOA at 100 yards so........if your looking for an accessory to make it look cool and have a $100 bucks to spend its worth it lol.

Helps accuracy and adds visual appeal to my Mini-30
Item is easy to install and immediately adds to the visual appeal of the entire rifle - once attached, many people thought I always had it there (kudos to nearly seamless finish match), while a few others thought I bought a new rifle (LOL)...At the range I can see the difference when shooting with the scope - bullet placement is more precise and groups are tighter. Haven't measured the exact spread difference but it's clear that this clamp definitely helped tightened the shots. I'm also hoping this would prolong the barrel life. One very small gripe on the visual aspect: the words SOCOM are barely seen (unlike on the selling image)...first thought they weren't there at all, then found them after a brief search. Nevermind this - buy this neat accessory.

The appearance, installation and fit all are fine. I have not yet shot my gun with this new addition. Mine is a new 2014 ( not thin) barrel Ruger Mini-14 Ranch rifle with synthetic stock. The bands do not meet/touch each other on top or bottom, there is a gap. The new look is very appealing to me . After a few hundred rounds I will drill an indentation in the gas block and re-torque the set screws.
