A Necessary Controller For Reefs
I have been using the Inkbird ITC308S for about two months now and it has been an essential tool for my and my reef aquarium. This particular controller has both a heating and cooling outlet, although I haven’t connected or needed a fan for cooling yet due to the weather. My reef is about 50 gallons total display and sump. It’s a basic sump with only 3 compartments. I have the controller's probe in the middle chamber with the refugium, controlling a 200w Eheim heater in the next chamber with the return pump. I have my heater set at 78 degrees and the controller set to turn on at 76 and shut off at 79. This gives me one layer of redundancy by causing the heater's power get cut if it gets stuck in the on position at 79 degrees. Eventually when the weather gets hot I'm going to set up a fan to kick on if it his 79 degrees. The inkbird was very accurate out of the box, tested with 3 different thermometers. It gives me the peace of mind to know that if the heater gets stuck in the on position, it won’t overheat the tank, and that if it gets too cold or hot, the alarm on the inkbird will let me know. The probe is replaceable so that’s a bonus knowing I can replace it if it fails. It is also an upgraded coated probe that makes it more durable especially in salt water aquariums. I have since gotten a second unit to install on my 10 gallon AIO for more protection from temperature swings, as a lot can go wrong faster in with the smaller volume. The reefing hobby is pretty expensive and no matter how much money you spend on a heater, they will eventually break. Why trust you heater to protect hundreds or even thousands of dollars worth of living things? The Inkbird will not break the bank and is a great alternative to buying an expensive Neptune Apex or something similar. The only improvement that I would love to see is for Inkbird to make a WIFI unit with heating and cooling outlets, duel REPLACEABLE rubberized probes for redundancy, and maybe a dimmable display. Inkbird has multiple versions that have some combination of these features, but not all in one. The inkbird was sent to me for free for review, but it was something I was going to buy regardless. I'm planning on starting a frag tank this year and will get another Inkbird unit for that as well. This product is highly recommended.

Awesome Temp Controller, Using with a Cobalt Neotherm 50W Heater
Great temperature controller. I use this for my betta in his Fluval Spec V, and stick the probe in the return pump section, where I have a Cobalt Neotherm 50W heater. This temperature controller gives tons of options, and is a great safety net for a faulty heater. Most heaters will fail at some point, and this will help save your tank. You can set a target value, and a heating or cooling differential/range that tells the controller when to kick on/off heating and cooling units. The adjustable hot/cold alarm feature is cool as well, and fairly loud. One note when using with a “smart” heater that has integrated temperature shut offs: set the Target Value on the Inkbird to higher than your actual target value in the water, such that it will only cut power to your heater if it gets too warm. Don’t have the Inkbird’s Target Value set to what you actually want the water to be. Doing so will flip your heater on and off pretty often, which isn’t good for the heater. Ideally, you’d want this controller to only turn off your heater in the event that it overheats the water. Besides that, operation and programming of the Inkbird is pretty straightforward, and I like that the probe can be removed and replaced if broken. The unit takes a new temperature reading every few seconds from what I’ve seen, so no worries on lagging. Overall, a solid product, and I recommend this investment for anyone even considering this product for an aquarium — it means you're already thrown a decent amount money into your tank, and this will help protect your investment.

SAVED MY FISH
Absolutely love it and can't believe something like this exists. It's like a brain for my heater. Easy to connect akd install into tank. The instructions are a little bit hard to understand but a couple videos on YouTube really help when it comes to the settings. Then the instructions and vocab make more sense! Temperature has kept consistent, so far its truly worth the money.

Good Temperature Controller For Aquarium/Reef
TL;DR: I bought this as main temperature controller for my reef aquarium system (the heater thermostats will be the backups). Overall it's performed as expected. You can only set on/off points at a full degree F, which is really my only complaint. Full review: I bought this for my 80g reef system. It's in my very cold basement and requires multiple heaters, so I wanted something to turn all the heaters on and off at the same time. So far it's been working exactly as I hoped. There are a few reasons I chose this specific model. First, the probe is plastic, a must for reef tanks. Second, the probe can be changed out; no longer is your temperature controller dead just because the probe wears out or becomes in accurate. The high/low temp alarm function wasn't necessary, but it's nice to have. The controller was pretty accurate. Out of the box, it only required a few tenths of a degree of calibration. I changed the mode to F*, set my alarms, calibrated down a few tenths and was good to go. My chief complaint about this unit is that you can only set the drift point at whole degrees on the Fahrenheit setting. In my case, I set the temperature to 76*, which means that I can only choose 75* or lower as the heater turn on point. I would have preferred to be able to set 75.5* as the heater turn on point, but a 1*F shift in a reef tank is not really that big a deal. Some heater thermostats drift much more than that in their on/off cycles anyway. So yeah, overall very pleased with this. A cheap and easy way to get some basic temperature backup functionality for my tank.

Peace of mind!
Oh my gosh I love this thing. I was worried about any heater I put in the tank malfunctioning and killing my fish. The Inkbird takes over and the probe in the tank tells it when to turn on and off by simply cutting off the electricity to it. This keeps the on/off switch from burning out because it never gets used. I found it to be super accurate right out of the box. One CON: the directions. It was, for me, (not a technical person,) a sort of Where’s Waldo of how do you work this thing? I gave up and asked ChatGPT how to do it. I got walked through it in the simplest manner possible. And did I mention? I love this thing. Now I don’t worry about my betta’s tank temperature.

Gives Me Peace of Mind, Just Wish It Came with Better Mounting Options
I got this temp controller for my aquarium, and it’s been doing exactly what I needed — keeping my heater in check and giving me way more peace of mind. The readout is easy to read, and I like being able to set a specific range so I don’t have to constantly monitor things. That said, I wish it came with some suction cups or mounting options out of the box. I had to buy a separate suction cup to keep it in place. The cable also felt a bit short depending on where you’re trying to run it — would’ve been nice to have a little extra length to work with. What I liked: - Keeps my tank at a stable, safe temp - Simple to set up and easy to read - Gives me peace of mind when I’m not home - Compact and doesn’t take up much space What I disliked: - No suction cups or attachment parts included - Cable could be longer for more flexible placement Overall, it works really well and does what it promises. Just be ready to rig your own mounting setup if you want it to sit cleanly on the side of your tank.
