Microeconomics: A Very Short Introduction (Very Short Introductions)

One of the greatest introduction to economics
I have a graduate degree in economics (and my specialization was microeconomics), but it's amazing that I still learnt a lot from this seemingly "entry-level" pamphlet! Professor Dixit is a fine writer and a great economic thinker, and I am especially amazed by how he is able to present such a complete sketch of an increasingly complicated discipline in only 100 pages. Due to Dixit's own research focus on game theory, I find the latter chapters slightly stronger than the early ones on the classical supply-demand analysis; but trust me, even the weaker parts of the book get most of the points accurately in a succinct manner . I highly recommend this book to everyone interested in economic science, including new-comers and veteran economists.

A very good VSI book
It does what it claims—short and introductory. I particularly enjoyed the clarity and brevity in the author's presentation of key ideas. The use of figures is also helpful in explaining concepts like supply/demand curves. Now I think I have some confidence opening an actual textbook of economics after reading this.

Intro to economics
Recommend to folks trying to get basics understood, good intro to concepts. Needs a part 2 , to build on intro

very clear explanation of bad theory
a very clear exposition of the received wisdom in economics - the author is unabashed that the principles of orthodox economics fail in almost every way to square with your own experience of economic reality

Good enough to buy...
This is a comprehensive but slightly superficial introduction to micro economics but does its job well. It is written by an accomplished economist and not a journalist as so many books of this type are. I would say it is a solid introduction to the subject by a true expert so on the quality and material covered front we get a good summary.I would say that it could do with spicing up with more contemporary or in fact interesting examples which is its flaw. I do not think the author makes it interesting enough?Never the less it is a solid, concise read and well worthy of purchasing.

what a wonderful little gem this book is
Phew, what a wonderful little gem this book is. Almost every concept that I had learnt ecclesiastically came together to give me a unified view of things. I had widely read many macro books but not so much microeconomics. This one says it is a short introduction. In fact, if you are a general observer of things in the world, this book gives a profound understanding of why things are the way they are. It discusses how prices convey signal, what competition does, and why institutions matter. Economics writing does not get any better than this.

Great short book; wish I'd read it years ago
This is a really useful little book on microeconomics that will take little more than two sittings to finish. It is nicely organised, and is really helpful in terms of 'connecting the dots' between markets and market failures. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone doing a microeconomics course at either undergraduate or graduate level.

Excellent short introduction
Handy for your beck pocket and those boring train journeys. Enlightened me to a wealth of information and further references, great title.
