Making Sense of It All: Pascal and the Meaning of Life

Great book for understanding those hard questions
Morris explains and expounds upon Pascal's thought in an easy to read manner. A apologetic work in the line of G.K. Chesterton and C.S. Lewis.Pascal is an example of a brilliant scientific mind who found it very reasonable to believe in God, or more specifically a Christian God. Morris, through Pascal, shows that faith and reason can take you farther than either can alone. A great thought provoking book for the person seeking understanding of those hard questions. One addendum to the reviewer of May 9, 2000 who said "Pascal was a Jansenist, the Roman version of a Catholic":Jansenism is named after Cornelius Jansen, who was the Roman Catholic Bishop of Ypres in the early 17th century. His main work, Augustinus, was published after his death. In this work, he claimed to have rediscovered the true teaching of St. Augustine concerning grace, which had been lost to the Church for centuries.Jansenism was never approved of by the Roman Catholic Church, and while Pascal had several Jansenist friends, and wrote in support of their cause, it is questionable whether he himself was a Jansenist. Morris addresses this issue in pages 8 & 9 on this book.

Enlightening
Thank you Reasons to Believe (Hugh Ross) for recommending this book. I was unfamiliar with Pascal’s writings on Christianity, and it is edifying to read a great thinker’s take on it, particularly in this age of post-modernism.

A Nice, Family-Run Operation
I believe I responded earlier. But, again, the product, service, and delivery time were exceptional. And a full invoice (together with a handwritten thank-you note) was included, which all-too-often isn't the case. This is obviously a really nice, family-run operation, and I recommend it to anyone looking for fairly priced books and excellent service.

I could go on and on about how good it is
Just finished reading this book, I could go on and on about how good it is, but I will let the other fine in depth reviews stand in my place. If you have every asked, what is the reason for our existence, this is the book for you!

easy read, if you can believe it
The author has a nice story-telling style with a touch of humor. It asks you to think and analyze, so I catch myself having to slow down, re-read, and think. But it is easy to just plow through it because it reads like a nice story.

Helpful
Morris uses good examples that appeal to less abstract minds. It is helpful in trying to gain an understand of philosophy.

No much Pascal
Pascal slips into Morris' discussion here and there; but this is a book of Morris' ideas -- only mildly interesting. Had he let Pascal actually shape them more, the interest might have been a little more than mild.
