but am so happy I did
I was skeptical about ordering an exhaust off amazon... but am so happy I did. This thing SOUNDS GREAT!!!! VERY beefy/ throaty. If you're trying to get away from that stock sound this is the way to go. Very easy to install. Literally bolted right in and was on the road. YOU SHOULD BUY THIS EXHAUST

Fitment and Quality
This exhaust unit is terrible, it two days of taking parts off then back on then off, etc. Problem is, exhaust units' Centerline/Center-point distances between Heater Boxes and Head assembly are extremely skewed requiring heat and malletizing to make any type of connection. At one point took ALL components off the engine and attempted to "dry fit" on floor..... still issues with connection. Would have returned it but by then the "rework" on the piece worm out ..... I do not recommend this item, yes made in China but really, build up on a certified jig.

Works great for my application.
11/24/17 - Let me say first since my question could not be answered in advance and I took a chance on this exhaust, YES it does work with a filter pump. You have to make sure you have the orientation on your donut clamps to where the hardware does not stick out toward the filter to give you clearance for your filter but it will work. Install may difficult if your engine is in your car mine was on a stand and made things much easier. I thought the exhaust may have been bent as I could not get it onto the #4 studs, grabbed a scrap head and saw it fit just fine then noticed I had a bent exhaust stud. The exhaust itself sits correctly on both heads exhaust ports. I would advise taking all your engine tin sheet metal screws loose and removing your lower cylinder tin then tighten everything/reinstall tin after the exhaust is 100% in place. What's in the box? Well more than just the muffler! It came with 2 each exhaust gaskets and heat riser gaskets, hardware to attach heat riser/block offs only AND an EMPI Aluminium fresh air hose part number 00-3494-0 for your heater boxes if needed. If you order just this muffler and an EMPI muffler install install kit 98-2989-0 you will have all needed gaskets and most of the hardware. Now the reason I did not give this a 5 star rating, the above mentioned fresh air hose was completely smashed into an unusable status. Let's face it those hoses are $7 - $11 dollars on average. If you order this counting on using that part you won't be able to. I will update this review after I get the motor installed in the car, still a few months away from that point.

Bad angle on heat riser bosses
The angle of the heat riser bosses were 3/32 to 1/8" low on the outside of each boss. The intake manifold heat riser bosses were perfectly level (OEM Intake). Thee muffler bosses are too short to be bent so I had to deform the manifold to fit it... I have worked on VW all of my life and fitted, well, many mufflers... Even OEM some mufflers have needed some adjustments, but, not like this... Worst I've ever seen. I realize this is an economy product, but they need to get a jig built instead of welding parts where ever they look good... If they are using a jig, they need a new one. I like the sound...++++ They sound as they are supposed to... It seems the chrome tips are actually stainless, (or strange chrome) They look good except they are turning yellow from the heat... A lot of paint has already peeled but I expected that... Painting mufflers to keep them looking good is not a foreign thing... They sound really good.. I have about 30mi on them... We'll see how long the glass packing lasts. (Not related to this part) I don't usually leave negative reviews but between UPS, Ebay and Amazon, I am getting tired of the customer abuse. Sellers think that once they give the package to the shipper, be it a UPS/Fedex box or the counter, or USPS their responsibility is over. Everything is up to the shippers after that... They are not required to get a receipt at time of shipment... And, the customer can worry about the tracking... It is not the customer's responsibility to make sure the shipper is on their toes. Before the customer takes possession of the shipment it is still the seller's responsibility to see that the product moves through the system.. I realize this is a separate issue than a shoddy built part. Issues are issues

Be advised this is louder than the one from TriMil but installation was flawless and works well with the bolt on oil filter. Plenty of clearance and fits the rear valence perfectly.

Good sound, good looks.
It’s a great little unit so far, but only 3 stars for the following reasons: On my 1970 bug, this one appears to be bent slightly as u can see in the pix the driver side fits great but the passenger side sits higher. Now I’m not willing yet to blame the seller because this car was just in a very minor rear-end accident, which is why I’m replacing the exhaust completely. It may be the rear apron that’s out of alignment but I really doubt it. Also on install I had to push the right side down with everything I had but even that wasn’t enough to bring it into alignment with the body cutouts. Secondly u need to strip the factory coating to apply your high temp final coating. BUT the factory was a total bugger to remove....3-4 cycles of paint remover, grinding etc. I’m really hopeful others might have a much better experience.

sounds very throaty but not noisy, added a few horses to my 1600cc DP and also i noticed the engine is now running much cooler. Another major change is how smoothly the engine runs plus its quite silent when idling at about 800rpm
