Short and not too hard for your beginning or struggling reader
My 6 year old son has been struggling to read and I have been looking everywhere for a series of books that will make him want to read. He loves these Fly Guy stories and he laughs every time he reads them. This is the first in the series and I gave it to him for Christmas. It is really nice to see him find a book that he actually likes to read. He can read the whole story without troubles, he had to ask what a few words were the first time through but now reads it to himself. These are really short chapter books and are best for kids that either have short attention spans (like mine) or like to feel an immediate sense of accomplishment. The chapters each have about 15-25 words and there are 3-5 chapters in each story. This means that he can read a whole book in 10 -15 minutes and then move on to something else.I am really hoping that these will be the gateway books to a love of reading for my son and so far they seem to be working as intended.

Friendly fly guy battles fear
I bought this “Fly guy” book for my 7 year old who has developed a fear of bugs- even flies! We read this book together and got a kick out of this story about a fly so friendly he even does tricks for his favorite little boy! Amazingly, my son is already showing less fear of bugs. This is a really cute story, and bonus, he can even read it to himself!

Cute book for beginner readers
My oldest son loved these books and I introduced them to my 6 year old who loves them as well. It’s cute and funny and not too easy and not too hard.

Fly Guy Is a Winner
I love the Fly Guy books. In school, I saw how excited reluctant young readers (primarily boys) were to read them over and over with a teacher and gain confidence to read words on their own. I purchased this for my 4 year old grandson and he loved it! I will buy more of these books so he’ll have his own little Fly Guy library to enjoy.

Okay for kids
I read this book as part of a graduate, yes graduate, class on Insects in Pop Culture. We had to write up a 1 page summary about it. For a child, obviously, the book is a fun diversion and has a good lesson about accepting others as they are and to avoid preconceptions. However, a child could easily get the impression that yes indeedy a house fly makes a good pet and they are not carriers of disease or pests. Adults are simply wrong.I can think of a number of other less than pretty insects that could have been used to get across the moral of the story. But since the kid's name was Buzz and the fly could say his name....

I haven't actually read this book, but I see my son with it often
My son is in 2nd grade and a pretty good reader, but it is still work for him. You can feel that he's putting forth effort. I have been trying to find some books that he can read "for fun". These are below his reading level in the sense that he can read much harder words, but it is perfect because he can just relax and enjoy the book. It is the kind of book he takes to his bed to read by himself and really enjoy the words and pictures. This is good because I've been wanting him to find reading to be a treat and not just work.
