Is it thick / foamy enough to prevent dents on the doors?

Yes it is provided that the force hitting the door is related to nominal impact. What about car washes, will it stay on the car?

You cannot drive car with it on much less take it through a car wash. It will fall off even in a strong wind.

Will it stay on if it rains?

These door protectors are not for driving. If you park your car in a parking lot and place these magnetic door ding protectors on your car, they will stay on in the rain. I have at times forgot to remove mine and drove to work with them on. They did not fall off.
