This Humble Cookbook Will Super-Charge Your Culinary Skills
I bought this humble cookbook several years ago. I say "humble" because it lacks the frills of glossy pages and colorful photos. In fact, it contains no photos whatsoever. And yet, this is the cookbook I refer to the most and enjoy reading the most. The author provides an outstanding collection of simple recipes offering a great selection of popular dishes along with tips and information helpful to every beginner or experienced cook. If you are like me and struggle in the kitchen to get good results, this book will help you a lot. If you are a student going away to school, this book will make it possible for you to replicate the dishes you enjoyed while living at home.I recommend this book to everyone, students, working people, beginner cooks, and even experienced cooks looking for fresh ideas for creating simple wonders in the kitchen for their families. It may sound like I'm over-hyping this book, but the truth is, this cookbook continues to inspire and be useful. I'm back here now buying a copy to send to my daughter.

Good Beginner Book
I’m not a college student but when I was I rented this book often from the library. My favorite dish is still the fattoush salad and became something I served to my family often. I finally bought my own copy and it’s a great introduction to plant-based and vegan cooking. Other vegan cookbooks like Bad Manners throw you into using stuff like nutritional yeast (which I’m not familiar with), but this one is a lot easier. Recipes are straightforward and use pretty basic ingredients and canned foods. Seitan is a bit hard to find in my area (this cookbook uses it as a faux meat) but I’ve just substituted impossible/beyond meat and it’s worked just fine.

A cornernstone favorite
I bought this book in 2006 and it is one of the best books I've ever used. I'm not even a vegan and cook from it all the time --the recipes are clear, fast, full of ingredients you can find anywhere in the world (I work in international development and used this book in East Africa, Asia and in between). It's economical, planet friendly and you likely have most of the ingredients, if not all, lying around the kitchen. Each recipe has been delicious and people always ask me for the recipes. Best too, you don't have a pile of dishes and pans and other stuff piled up afterwards, I've made many things in one pot or bowl. So even though I'm no longer a student at university, this is a great book. If I had to take one cookbook with me on a deserted --but appliance supplied -- island, this would be it,and I'd be a happy, full girl.

A great, everyday cookbook
I own A LOT of vegan cookbooks, but there are only a few I turn to on a regular basis for every day meals. This one has become my new favorite! The recipes make just enough for a couple or a small family, and the ingredients are easy to find at any basic grocery store. When I first started looking at the recipes, I thought they seemed too simple. I was worried that they would be bland, but I was totally wrong! I especially love the edamame stir fry--the sauce is divine, and the ingredients are interchangeable, so you can throw in whatever veggies you have on hand. It has become my "oh crap, what are we going to do for dinner?" standby. I seriously love this book--five stars for sure!

A good book for someone just starting out on a plant-based ...
A good book for someone just starting out on a plant-based diet. I say this because other vegan cookbooks assume a pantry full of ingredients that a beginner - and especially a student with limited funds - wouldn't have, or even know where to buy. The recipes in this cookbook use, for the most part, ingredients that are familiar and easy to come by, and do not take hours of prep.

Love this book!
I originally checked this book out at the library and liked it so much that I bought it for two college students that I know. Very easy recipes for a college student, however I do wish there were pictures of the dishes in the book. That was actually a comment from the male college student I sent it to....I need pictures to know if I like the recipe or not.Would recommend this book to anyone testing out a whole-food, plant based diet.

Too complicated for a student
"Student's Go Vegan" is a find cookbook if you are a veteran cook. I have two teenagers and there is no way they could complete many of these recipes, and I doubt most college students could either. How many students know what brine solution is? What about a nonreactive bowl? I know how to cook an onion until it is translucent, but shouldn't that be explained to a newbie? This is a regular cookbook, which Raymond slapped a cover on making it a student's cookbook, without changing anything to make it accessible to students. At the least, a glossary of cooking terms is absolutely necessary. I'll keep it, because some of the recipes look nice, but I'll keep looking for a real student vegan cookbook for my kids. This is definitely not it.

Easy and Understandable Recipes!
I've been using this book for several years now, not because I'm a full fledged vegan, but because I enjoy creating different healthy dishes. What I love about this book is that most of the ingredients are fairly common, and if you're a whole-foods eater, then you probably have many of the ingredients in your pantry already. The recipes are also pretty simple, and good starting point for anyone wanting to change up their consumption to a more whole-foods approach.

Poor effort
I am not impressed with this book. There are hardly any recipies for actual main meals, the book is full of boring and basic componants e.g Sauteed Greens, Whole grain couscous and Polenta - which I would not count as recipies. Out if the entire book there are only 3 recipies I want to try.Good points about the book are that it is clear and well laid out with descriptive recipie titles. Another downside for Uk buyers is that it is all in American cup measurments which I can live with for liquids but gets tiresome when it's used for everything such as mushrooms, broccoli and olives.

Basic
I found the book somewhat basic. Also, it is bereft of ilustrations, which doesn't help enticing the reader to try out the recipies. In fact, I still haven't cooked any of them and I do like cooking. Ones I overcome the starkness of the pages I might get around to do it. The recipies look okay, if a little basic. However, I haven't actually tried the outcome so in that I can not comment.
