Denny and Susan give you the inspiration that everything matters and it is meaningful to start with one small step toward our health which only we can create. The authors take you through a thorough understanding and process of what are the good habits of health which actually come before what you eat. Its a revolutionary approach which brings success. The idea is that when you can establish these habits for everyday practice then in and of themselves , the structure of these habits if held to will gradually develop the intuition to cook what your body needs. But its not left there, there is artful and carefully subscribed information packed in this book for how and what to eat for Longevity and Vitality. From menu planning and suggestions ,to recipes and words to give a whole new dimension of understanding about the spirit of health. IT is empowering and doable! Im reading carefully from cover to cover to get the most out of this timely offering. IF you know nothing about macrobiotics or are an old timer, this ultimate guide takes you through the paces and leaves no questions unanswered. Most of all, the reader feels, I can do this, I can get stronger, look better and take my health in my own hands. Review: Understandable, Attractive, Authoritative: Fits Western Culture - Macrobiotics?!?!? Wake up and eat breakfast by 8:30, lunch before 1300 and stop eating at least 3 hours before bed. No screens or reading materials at any meals. Quiet conversation is best. Chew every mouthful 25-50 times. Walk briskly for 30 minutes per day. Every day, rub your whole body with a cotton wash rag and hot water. As for food: Grain (rice, millet, barley, bulgar, faro, etc.) is the centerpiece of every single meal. Add a separate vegetable dish. Eat soup at one meal per day. Miso soup with seaweed and 2-3 kinds of vegetable 2-3 times per week. White meat fish or Alaskan salmon 2-3 times per week. No dairy (yogurt’s the worst). That’s were it all starts. That’s what you have to do. All the rest is pretty much detail about what grains, what vegetables, what soups and what complements you choose. Oh, and do maybe one meal per week or one meal per day to start the path toward health. The habit is more important than the content of the meal. Eventually, your body will crave the healthy food. Eventually, you will feel physically and mentally blah when you eat that New York Strip, Big Mac, or banana split. How simple, enticing and smart is that for a system? Of course, you’re gonna have trouble finding some of the organic foods because the good ol’ USDA and the FDA want the corporate monoculture crop farmers and the corporate meat growers and the corporate medical industry and Big Pharma all want to make money by keeping you unhealthy. The history of food related in this book is literally enough to make you sick. This book is a must for every parent who wants a healthy kid, for every person who wants to get healthier, and for every person suffering from any illness, chronic or otherwise, who wants to heal. Eat and be healthy!

macrobiotics for a new beginning
I have practiced Macrobiotics, since 1985 when as a relatively young man, I faced some health issues and used Macrobiotics to cure my condition and remain in good health for almost 35 years. This book is written by one of the leading teachers and counselors in Macrobiotics, who brings 40+ years of practice and insight into peoples health and well being. The book is an easy read and a primer for getting healthy, staying that way and leading a long productive life. The material breaks down the process in seven simple steps, that show how long lived traditional cultures maintain their health way into their 80's and 90's and helps you understand how you can do the same thing. This is a "how to" book and easy to follow. The recipes will add joy to your kitchen and a fresh look at how you can regain your health, shed a few pounds, and enjoy good food ...all at the same time. Read the book and best of wishes on finding new direction in your journey to health.

Plant based health
While it's a good book, I don't completely agree with her thoughts on energy and New Age info but the information about the nutrients is good

Very informative and uplifting!
A guide packed with information and explanations, its tone is unlike the 1970's macrobiotic books that were so rigid. This book is flexible and encouraging, laying out the map forward in a way that's understandable and inspiring. When I was diagnosed with brain tumors and starting on chemo, Denny Waxman and this book launched me with confidence into the world of additional resources for healing. The book is so well written and uplifting in tone, at times it has felt to me like it's a love letter to Life. So for me the book has been a combination of guidance on nutrition and right living plus encouragement to fall in love once again with life.

Eating for health can be easy and delicious
Another thoughtful, healthful book by Denny and Susan Waxman that makes it easy to live and eat in a more thoughtful way. All of the advice is on point and the simple, delicious recipes will make you realize how unnecessary highly processed foods can be. To cook macrobiotically isn’t difficult. I’d encourage anyone who finds cooking complicated to try this, and Denny’s previous, book to learn how easy creating whole food meals can be.
