Terrible, I'd give it zero stars if possible. Hard pass.
Like others have said, inaccurate label for the spreader settings, handle too short, shoots whatever youre spreading backwards towards your feet/shoes, very inconsistant spread with a much heavier spread to the left, and the agitator isnt close enought to the openings so when youre at about the last 2 or 3 inches of product you have to constantly bounce it up and down to get it to fall through holes. The only good thing to say about it is that it has a 30 day return.

Don't trust the baffle opening size and you'll love it.
The primary reason I purchased this spreader was its pneumatic wheels. An 80-pound capacity spreader is too big for my needs but alas it is the smallest one with pneumatic wheels from this manufacturer. It was easy to assemble despite slightly confusing instructions. The is a nice blister pack of all the hardware with everything labeled but one minor issue. The instructions say to screw the auger onto the impeller shaft but the accompanying diagram shows what is labeled in the blister pack as a spreader. So I selected the "spreader" since that is what is shown but it has two orientations in which it can be installed. This leaves two pieces left over. That is always a horror in assembling anything. Chapin's website does not have an email to ask questions but does provide a toll-free number. I did find a Facebook page and sent a message to them in that fashion. because I wanted to send photos. I also indicated my question when I took them time to register my product on their website. From those actions I was pleased to have my questions answered. So I can say for a fact that the manufacturer does respond timely. I find out that what is labeled as the auger is best used when spreading salt. But why not just provide clearer assembly instructions? There certainly is sufficient white space on the sheet.I give you fair warning before you use this spreader. The baffle openings, in my opinion, have no correlation to Scott's broadcast spreaders. My Scoot winterizer fertilizer recommended an opening of 3 1/4. This spreader has a 3 and a 3 1/2 but not 3 1/4. So I set mine for 3 1/2 and away I went only to watch a quick $30 of fertilizer pour out before I made a perimeter circuit around my yard. With some fiddling and experimenting, I actually found that setting 2 worked. In the world of fertilizer, there is a huge difference between 2 and 3 1/2. So beware of the settings. Now I am a pretty tall guy. If you say if you are over 6'2" you are going to be stooping to use this spreader. But guess what? They all appear to be made for the average height male from 1895. In case equipment designers haven't figured this out yet, American men and women are taller than they were years ago. OK so maybe a pet peeve of mine for always having to fit into a tiny world. So what is good about this spreader? If you are an average height, you're golden! It is well constructed. The only assembly that is required is bolting on the handle (that really short one) and installing the auger or was it the spreader? Everything else looks nice. The gear box assembly appears more robust than other models I've seen. I hope the plastic label that serves as the baffle opening guide (did I mention the problem with the baffle opening? oh yes I did) sticks really well because what would I do if it eventually falls off?But the main reason I purchased this spreader were those lovely pneumatic wheels. They are nice. And it's the hopper is red. And I like red.You judge for yourself.

Cumbersome, not consistent spreading. Former Lawn Care Specialist
Spreader is cumbersome on a thick lawn. The border feature puts fertilizer in a line that left a burn line where too much fertilizer dropped. The settings control loosens and does not remain consistent. Spreads fine material better than pellet type coated slow release fertilizer. Very Hard to push at max fill i have to half fill for best results.

Very easy to install. I had to adjust the tire pressure, prior to using the spreader. The spreader works as well or better than more expensive,"Professional," spreaders.

One star is generous
So there's a handle with which to push it along - for tall people it's too short, for short people it causes the unit to tip forward so that the bottom support bar drags along the grass impeding forward progress. The "sidewalk blocker" which should keep the fertilizer off the the aforementioned sidewalk doesn't work at all. The fertilizer spread is completely uneven - it is much heavier to the left, leaving the right side wanting. The real bonus however, is that the fertilizer also spreads to the rear - which fills your shoes with fertilizer. All in all a miserable experience - do not recommend.

Chapin spreader
80 pound capacity hopper is nice and large. Pneumatic wheels are a big plus.Control settings are easy to use. Only negative is the rather short handle height.Decent price compared to similar models. Overall it's a good quality spreader.

Poorly designed, Poorly made
First off, the holes in the gate are poorly located. They cause most of the fertilizer to be directed at your left leg. This isn't a difficult thing to get right. The nylon lock nut isn't adequate to prevent the impeller from spinning off and getting lost. The handle angle is wrong. It's fine on asphalt but too high when you have to push it through a lawn. The gate control works very poor. When the axle ceased up due to corrosion, I threw it away. This spreader was a mistake.

One step up from a plastic version
Need to push really hard through grass and topsoil, definitely not worth the money
