Revival

Truly Inspiring!
The Doctor is one of the greatest Preachers and he cuts to the very core of the Churches problem. It is the same problem still today as it was when he preached. The problem is that Christians do not know who or what they are. We don't really understand how we are really Sanctified. We need more of this teaching today. We don't need to learn how to be a Joseph. Or to be a Daniel. We need to learn and know who and what we are "In Christ"!! This is a desperately needed book today.

"Oh Lord send the fire just now, and baptize everyone!"
This classic work on Revival is a must have for the seeking Christian who wants more of the Lord Jesus in their lives.Using the Welsh Revival of 1859 as an example, as well as some very profound typology from Exodus and Isaiah, Dr. Lloyd-Jones delineats the general principals of what a revival is (as well as what it isn't), hinderences to revival, and, above all the Soverignty of God in sending a revival. There is one purpose of revival, and that is to bring God glory. I know that this flies in the face of all of the popular notions of revival; a church being set afire, the USA repenting, etc. etc. But after reading this epic work you will come to understand the glory of God more deeply and appreciate this more fully. The only criticism I have of this book is that Dr. Lloyd-Jones relies exclusively on historical examples to illustrate the biblical principles of revival. No where in the book does he share any personal experience he has had with this spiritual phenomenon; his work is totally a recounting of history. What made Frank J. Bartleman's Azusa Street so compelling is that he was writing from an eye witness point of view. He could relate first hand, what the visitations from the Lord were like, he could give us a glimpse of the closeness of his fellowship, he could reveal just how hot the revival fire burned in his own soul. There is no indication in this book that D. Martyn-Lloyd had ever had a supernatural experience with God, although I give him a lot of credit for meticulously proving revival from history and taking a stand on it. Too many denominations today teach that the days of miracles are passed. I don't believe this for a second.I do not want my comments to disuade any reader interested in revival from buying this work. It is still well written, and I believe, carries with it the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. You will find a great deal which will feed your hungry soul and drive you to seek a revival for your own heart and life. I am not waiting for some big revival of Christianity to take place (although this is not promised in the Bible) before I get closer to God. I want a revival of my own soul, and I want it now.

Biblical Basis of Revival
Lloyd-Jones here provides a strong Biblical basis for true revival, which he defines as a sovereign God sending down His Spirit to convict and to regenerate. He draws upon various Scripture passages to present his case. He also illustrates revival by looking to church history, particularly the revival of 1859. His interpretation of the Day of Pentecost is unique. Rather than seeing it as just a one-time event, he sees it as a pattern of God pouring out His Spirit, empowering His people for ministry, and adding large numbers of souls to the Kingdom. Lloyd-Jones also distinguishes between revival and revivalism. I highly recommend this book!

Another masterpiece by Dr. Lloyd-Jones
We are so lost today. People exist every day but are not alive enjoying and savoring despite all the problems because inside we are empty;void of any spiritual direction. We need a revival. The church today has been absorbed by the world an forgotten its first responsibility which is to tend the flock. Pray one... Pray all for a revival that we may once again see the Glory of God.

An important book for church leaders today
Having read about the revivals that took place in 1859, particularly in Wales and England, this book was a very helpful ‘commentary’. Incredible that considering it was written more than 60 years ago, it is still as relevant and timely as ever.

Here in this book of Revival we have some answers to questions like, why is the Church in such a poor state spiritually? Why are so many Christians experiencing defeat, suffering a sense of failure and depression. The need for Revival as outlined by Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones is overwhelming. We cannot produce as some seem to think Revival in the Church and among God's people, it is an act of God the Holy Spirit. What we can do is to be in a state of readiness. This book will help many Christians today. I recommend it to the reader.
