Will this work well on carpet? For a really heavy treadmill?

Perhaps if you don't plan to move it. I bought 2 sets with the idea of being able to roll the treadmill around on them easier than directly on the carpet. They fell apart immediately when I tried to move the treadmill on them. They didn't work at all!

is it good for noise reduction also ? I live in 5th floor with wooden flooring? Has anyone use in such environment ?

My son uses this mat under his treadmill to reduce noise since he's on the top floor with hardwood floors.

I want to protect my carpet by placing these under a home gym with a 150 weight stack? Will these work satisfactorily?

Yes. I use mine under my treadmill and use it regularly. My carpet doesn't even have indentations from the weight above it.

Will these matts stain or discolor light carpeting? Our carpet is a beige.

I don't believe that it will. But we have ours on hardwoods, so I can't answer for sure. Sorry.
