My mother-in-law had one of these types of battery-operated vegetable peelers previously, and loved it. I've heard her lament being unable to replace it a few times, so I finally perused Amazon to see what I could find. I was a bit hesitant since this one cost far less than the other options and only had one review. I can't speak to longevity, but I can tell you that the day she received it, she busted out some potatoes to see how it worked, then called me with such excitement to tell me what a wonderful gift it was. If you like this style of peeler, you can't go wrong with this one.UPDATE 3-16-14 - I don't know if this will ever come back in stock, but wanted to update about the one flaw with the peeler. Within a week of using this, my mother-in-law mentioned the difficulty keeping the battery compartment closed while using. You can "band-aid" it, but it is a design flaw. It didn't stop her from using it.

My mom & sister both have Parkinson's so I bought these for them it really makes there live a lot better so glad I found the battery One for them I looked every where for these things they are hard to find I will be buying some more later to put up for them just in case.Thanks

My mother in law gave me one of these years ago and it was great. But it did stop working after a few years and I couldn't find one. I am so glad to have one again it makes peeling potato and even turnip really easy.

Easy to use and works exactly as expected. A very functional tool that every kitchen should have.
