San Pedro Huachuma: Opening the Pathways of the Heart Kindle Edition

I have read a lot of books about plant medicines... This books description sounds like it gives you tips for working with San Pedro and gave me the impression the author had trained with the plant traditionally....I was surprised to find the author only sat in 1 or 2 ceremonies with another shaman leading before leading their own (and it was a non-traditional healer). The books hardly talks about San Pedro or traditions around San pedro - it mostly talks about a lot of new age ideas mixing in Christianity, simplified pop-psychology etc.... There were some parts written about the Q'ero tribe that were also misinformed (sounds like the writer learned from someone taught by the Four Winds Foundation which is a new age group known for making up their own rituals then claiming they are Q'ero to help sell classes). Maybe the author doesnt know about the darker side of the Four Winds group, but living so close to the Q'ero you'd think he would spend at least a little time with them if he wanted to write about them.Sadly there arent a lot of good books on San Pedro out there.... But this one didnt add much for me. I get bothered when people publish all these new age ideas and make it seem like they are traditional - because these older traditions are being lost and replaced by the new age movement and it is just modern colonialism..... I recommend Ross Heavens books The Hummingbirds Journey to God or Cactus of Mystery if you want to read about San Pedro (I found them much more insightful and less new agey).

This is the book for you if you are contemplating doing ceremony with San Pedro or have had a ceremony and want to make sense of it. Western culture lacks the indigenous understanding of the basic elements/energies and sacred landscape to often benefit from plant medicine. Javier provides it in a loving, personal way. It's not preachy or technical. It's the same heart energy that the plant itself exudes. I love that he basically says that it's not magic. You have to have the openness, heart, eyes, and ears to hear what San Pedro is saying. That's the grounded reality. It's not about some psychedelic trip or mind altering explosion of Godliness. God is here all the time. It's more like "where are you?"Anyway, I love the humility and love that is in every sentence of this book. I love the practical bits at the end. Highly recommend it.

I truly enjoy reading this book.Javier explains very well how San Pedro cactus opens your heart "like a lotus flower" to become a more loving,compassionate,forgiving person.His words are full of inspiration and enlightenment.Reading his words,I feel transported to a different dimension,and forgetting about my existence.All I become is expanded love that encompasses everyone and everything.This book is a great buy,and really worth reading if you want to expand your mind.Thank you Javier for writing this book!

As a friend and student of Javiers, I found this book particularly moving not only because I knew him and sat in ceremony but also because anyone with an interest in understanding the psycho/spiritual healing process, with or without plant medicine experiences, can connect with the richness of words and depth of intention behind this book. I gifted it to my 94 year old grandmother and watched her eyes well up with tears as she read it...as mine are now remembering the experiences I shared with Javier....rest in peace my friend.

When you try to find a true essence in this book, it just disappears through your fingers like water.,.I like his book on ayahuasca, but this one is so totally different.

Like his Ayahuasca book, Javier shares in a honest, matter-of-fact way about working with Grandfather Huachuma. A great read along with Cactus of Mystery by Ross Heavens for anyone starting to work or has worked with San Pedro medicine.

Great audio book. Enjoyed it a lot. Next trip will be to Perú 🌿🌎 for a shamanistic experience with a new teacher plant.

Beautifully insightful and inspiring.

I was very let down by this book. I was expecting it to have more information on the cactus itself. Where it grows, what it does when you take it, does your heart rate increase, etc, etc? The book is far more about spiritual healing than the actual psychotropic compound in the title. Not once does he ever mention the word "liver" in the book. Although it has been discussed by others who have used san pedro cactus that it has a very obvious effect on the liver organ. I understand that the healing that takes place involves spiritual healing although that's all that this book seems to be about. It would have been good to have at least one chapter where it discusses the effects upon the body and the actual plant. I would have also liked to understand what the effects of microdosing are with this cactus and if it is safe to use with other substances. If you are looking for a book about the practical uses of san pedro this isn't it. If you are looking for a book about the concepts and philosophy of spiritual healing, this would be a good place to start.

A very explicit book on the plant San Pedro to people who are new to this kind of work or not! Javier writes beautifully and shares also his own journey with honesty and humility. It also makes the reader reflect on what spirituality and the shamanic world mean and it offers guidance on how to see beyond old concepts. A book to keep, share, return to many times...

I read a lot of books on this subject but your book exceeds anything I have read so far. The information is very comprehensive and delivered with a lot of experience and sincerity but in an accessible and passionate way to read. It is food for thought and will be a reference for me. I may return there often to recall some important concepts of this medicine.Thanks again and congratulations on this book.
