For the iPhone and Intuit goPayment card reader, here's a find!
Here's the story... I have an iPhone in an Otterbox Defender case. I also use Intuit's goPayment service, with a credit card swiper. The problem I had was that the card reader does not plug all the way into the iPhone while it's inside the phone case. Intuit's solution was to "just remove the case every time you want to swipe a credit card". I think not! So after much research, I located a cable here on Amazon (and several other audio-related web sites) for $21. The comments stated it would definitely solve my problem. I was about to order the $21 cable when, for some reason, I located this one. Looking at the description, it looked like it should also work (but for $17 less!) The key is that the cable needs all 4 conductors running through it, with no wire reversals. (A plain "TRRS" cable). I chanced it and tried it. At first I was disappointed when the software told me it could not sense the card reader. Then I remembered that the volume has to be turned up all the way. Tried it again and, sure 'nough, when I scanned my credit card, my name and card number popped up on the screen. Works just fine! This cable saves $17 over the other one and the quality appears to be good. This is a 3' cable. You plug the male end into the iPhone, and the card reader into the other of the cable. Bottom line is that this is definitely compatible with an iPhone (mine is the 4s) and an Intuit goPayment card reader (in my case the white one).

Great Cable; does the job, high quality
I don't understand the 1 star reviews. This is a solid, well-made cable, and some criticisms are about issues that are not the cable's fault. It does what I need. I can plug my external mike into my Samsung smartphone and sit 8 feet away while recording videos (which I use for my work). The seller does warn in the description, "Please note: To ensure proper hardware detection, we recommend that the external headset be plugged into the adapter first, before the adapter is connected to the computer or mobile device." In addition, I don't see how one can blame the cable for the music jumping tracks when one is on the road. I don't see how the cable itself can do that. As far as shielding--I don't know if it is shielded or not, but I've not picked up any extraneous noise. The sound is better than I get just using my Samsung Note 3's built-in microphone, even with this 2m cable attached, shielded or not. It's a good, solidly made cable, and for a great price.

Perfect iPhone/iPad extension cable.
Pros: - Works with virtually all Apple products (tested on iPhone 5s, iPad 2, MacBook Pro). - Works plugged end-to-end into each other. - Best price I could find on the net. - Fantastic length (approx 6 feet per cable). Cons: - It give horrendous messages. Matter of fact it just sat there when I asked it to. If you're curious, I purchased two of these to extend my lav mic ("Tie Clip Lavalier Microphone for Iphone 4 4s 5 Ipad 2 3 Mini Ipod") to reach my iPhone from 12 feet away. Would work also with Rode's SmartLav ("Smart Lav"). Note: Be wary using this cable when you are receiving phone calls or using the wifi. I'd suggest putting your phone on airplane mode, or the frequency may make your recording all buzzy. If you can find a "shielded" cable, more power to you, but I couldn't find one. The great price of this product blows the competition out of the water in my humble little warm opinion. I would suggest this product, hands-down. -Beau Chevassus / Knok Studio

Works well with Bose® SoundTrue® headphones if plugged in correctly **READ**
EDIT: It is important to plug your headphones, mic, etc. into the cable FIRST and then the extension cable into your devise for it to work correctly. This does not fit my intended purpose however I have verified this has to be done to pass additional signals. My original review is follows. My Bose wired headphones are MFI certified. MFI is Apple lingo meaning Made For iPod. This means that the headphone cable has a microphone enabling hands free calling and can also play, pause, skip and adjust the volume of Apple devices. To accomplish this the cable plug has four positions instead of the usual stereo only two channels. I like to use my headphones when at my Mac Mini however it is difficult to get at in my setup so I needed and extender cable. A standard headphone extension cable will not work with the Bose as the audio channels become weirdly mixed and unlistenable. Bose has an extension cable that is 20ft and way to long for my needs. I purchased the StarTech.com cable to see if it would work and found it will pass all the commands of my Bose cable and the sound is correct. The StarTech four position cable will also provide normal stereo to regular headphones. Recommended.

Harley work around for cell phone.
These cables are good for intended use. Appears to be well made. I'm going to be using them on my motorcycle. You have to have trrs cables in order for this scenario to work. Update. I've had a chance to try these out. They work great. Used them for a full face helmet and rigged one for my half helmet headset also. I'm using these as a work around for my 2011 Harley Ultra Limited. I did not want to buy the Roadtech GPS to interface with my phone and corded headset, but still needed to be able to take an emergency call. As a general rule, I do not recommend riding a motorcycle and talking on the phone. I bought these trrs cables, a USB C (my phone requires this setup, your phone may use different style) to headset and microphone splitter, and some boom style microphones. Run a jumper 3.5mm trs cable from splitter adapter "headset" into aux port AND run a 3.5mm trrs from splitter adapter "mic" to the mic mounted in your helmet. I ran these mic cords through the loops of the corded headset, one for each headset. Note: This ONLY works from the aux position on the Harmon Kardon.

Nice attempt, room for improvement, pun intended , narrow post compared to others
Really 2 3/4 stars for this Startech... Post design is not very good, smaller than average 3.5mm post, in turn causes static and loss of connection, ie, Balance at times inside the jack, especially with Macbooks ... have to turn the cord inside the jack to find the sweetspot.. Much better than other CTIA cables I have found, but still needs improvement #feedback

Perfect to Extend Apple Headphones to your Mac Audio Port
I do lots of Skype, WebEx, and GoToMeeting calls using my MacBook Air, and needed a better audio + microphone solution. I've found that using BlueTooth headsets is just not very reliable or convenient, even given the maturity of the software. In the latest release of Skype for Mac OSX, they appear to have completely broken the pairing capability, so BT is a no-go. For extending your white Apple iPhone stock issue headphones w/ mic, this cable works perfectly. Just plug this cable into your Mac's audio port, plug the iPhone headphones into the cable, and you are good to go! Excellent sound quality in both directions. It's as if the iPhone headphones just magically got a longer cable. FYI, this product can be hard to find, and StarTech is clearly expert at this type of obscure little gadget. There are a few other extenders out there, but the cable MUST be "TTRS" in order to support the microphone etc. Have not tried this with an iPhone or iPod, so cannot comment on the playback controls. I only bought this to use while sitting at my desk. It's so nice not have to slide the laptop closer every morning for conference calls...

TOTAL CRAP - VERY LOUD 60 CYCLE HUM - UNUSABLE AUDIO WITH RODE SMARTLAV+
I really wanted to like this cable - I really did. I bought it to use with my Rode Smartlav+ to record interviews to my iPhone. Said interviews were in my recording studio which has very good shielding. I have never had any issues with anything connected in the studio. Using the cable, I was very surprised to hear VERY loud 60 cycle hum after hooking everything up. Just to be sure, I plugged the Rode Smartlav+ directly to my iPhone - everything good. Retried the Smartlav+ with the cable; instant 60 cycle hum. My conclusion was bad shielding. I'd return it except for the purchase price, it would be more of a PITA than getting my $7 back. I record professionally for a living and have been using high end mics & cables for over 30 years. This cable just sounded terrible - the resulting audio unusable. Your mileage may vary, but I won't be buying any further cables from this company.

This cabel is really hard to find in store so 5 star
I had traditional stereo cable (2 ring) which worked fine with my stereo headphones but it would not work well with headphones with mic on it. And it's kinda annoying because most of the headphones this days are with mic. I looked everywhere for trrs cable (in store) they all had the stereo one so I decided give this baby a try and it's worth the money. It work really well with my gaming headphones. This product is 6.5 ft which is great for me. Sound quality is amazing as well. Plus packaging says it has lifetime warranty on it

Good choice, no audio quality reduction
I wanted extension cable to use between my Android phone and Rode lavalier microphone. This works very well and I don't notice any reduction in the audio quality. Good choice.
