LEATHERMAN FREE P2 Multi-Tool, Magnetic Locking, One-Hand Accessible

One of my favorite Leathermans, I have many Leathermans, like a crazy person. All over the house, in every car and motorcycle plus i carry one everywhere i go for the last 30years…the original, Waves, wingman, surge, skellatool, Rebar, curl…Wave plus will beat this in almost every way. More and nicer tool selection on the wave, just look at it and you’ll see. The P2 is lighter and has easy access to all tools on the outside. The easy one hand opening for the pliers is the only reason to buy this over the wave. Fit and finish on the P2 is nicer as well. Another thing is no bit and micro driver so there’s no little pieces to loose. Also the plier handles close smaller on the p2 so it’s better for smallish hands. It’s definitely an amazing tool but the wave or wave plus is very hard to beat. If I am only allowed to have one it would be the Wave…or maybe the Surge however if you like higher end kit you may like the free series for fit and finish. One more to check out is the Leatherman Curl, looks like a wave without the saw and serrated blade and it’s a lot cheaper. No one ever talks about it but it’s awesome also has the same clip as the p2. Hope all this nonsense helps. Rock on!

This is the best leatherman ever made. I’m sorry, but all the people complaining about the magnets picking up metal shavings or the handles being uncomfortable are a bunch of babies. It’s a great size, love being able to access all the tools from the outside. The free technology is awesome, it’s awesome to flip the pliers open with one hand. I like that it doesn’t have the changeable bits because you never have to worry about losing parts or anything falling out. Let’s be honest, a multi tool will never replace real tools so we shouldn’t compare them to real tools. I carry this every single day and when you need a screwdriver, pliers, or knife quick you just whip this sucker out and it works great. It’s not as good as any tool in my bag but it’s the most used tool I own because It gets the job done every time I need it to. I wish it wasn’t discontinued! I’ve owned lots of multitools and this one is the one I’ve loved the most.

Great tool, use it daily at work. It is handy having this tool on hand when doing mainteance without having to run bsck to the truck to grab something when it its a easy fix. The P2 is good quality and can be abused without failure. I have been carrying this daily since purchasing.

I love this multi tool. I just moved my family from one side of the country to the other, and I used this tool to disassemble and reassemble our furniture, open boxes, trim tarps, open bottles, and fix the wiring in my trailer. I’ve carried Juice and Wave style Leathermen for a decade; this is a worthy upgrade. I love the locking feature, and find the knife truly one-hand accessible. I love the size of this, and carry it everyday at work in dress pants or khakis. If I could change one thing, I’d eliminate the serrations on the knife. I didn’t want the bulk of the dual blades, but the serrations on this single blade make the knife uncomfortable (and basically unusable) for paring (like paring an apple). The serrated portion contacts your thumb pad, and it is dang sharp. I’d rather just do without serrations on the P2 since it is such a small section of the blade anyway. These are expensive, but it feels like carrying and using a Rolls-Royce. Precision machining, high quality materials, and exceptional attention to detail and user needs make Leatherman the gold standard for multitools.

I have just about all of the Leatherman multitool's even the Arc but I carry this one every day. The P2 is my favorite!

Sturdily built with high-end materials, loaded with devices, easy one-hand operation, ... I don't leave home without it.

This multitool is made extremely well, with incredible worksmanship. Not cheap by any means, but built to a standard above any other multi tool I have used. The handles open and fold very smoothly and positively. The individual tools stay folded into the handle securely yet are super easy to access. With all this gushing, why only 4 stars instead of 5? It has nothing to do with the quality or worksmanship of the tool, but rather the design/implementation. If you are an actual USER of a multitool, especially someone who uses one a lot on a regular basis, the individual tools that fold into the handle are on the smallish side. The pliers - awesome, the scissors - very good to excellent, knife blade - excellent, the saw - there is no saw - a strike against it as I use a saw fairly often phillips screwdriver - about as good as you can make it considering its 'flattened' design, small screwdriver which is incorporated into the awl - very good but not small enough for glasses - awl is very good medium small screwdriver - very good and incorporated into a file which is way too small for much practical use, Medium screwdriver - very good, incorporated into a tiny ruler only 1" long and a wire stripper that works OK on smaller wires, Large screwdriver - very good, combined with a box cutter/package opener that works well enough. Can/bottle opener - also very good The lock design for the small fold-out tools is excellent, you can open or unlock/close the tools without opening the pliers, a very clever design executed very well. The tools are easy to unfold, they are held shut with a magnet and you access them by pressing on an 'ear' at the end of the tools instead of a nail nick - again a clever design executed very well. The whole thing oozes quality and precision, but for ME, and for MY uses, the Wave+ is a more practical tool for they way I PERSONALLY use a multi-tool. Having precision eyeglass screwdrivers in flat and phillips, as well as a bit holder for the main screwdriver (along with extra bits and a way to hold them in the belt sheath) makes it a more practical daily use tool. The P2 has no loose driver bits you might lose, but the Wave+ has added versitility, has a better file (which I admit I use more than probably 90% of the general population) and is significantly cheaper. I also have a Free P4, which adds a second knife blade, a nd a saw to the mix, with equal build quality. Overall, I can't complain about the build quality, but for ME and MY uses, the Wave+ has more of the tools I need, and at a better price, at the tradeoff of having to open the pliers to access some of them, and with an action that isn't quite as 'slick'. If you don't need a large file or a saw, or anything more than flat and phillips screwdrivers, you won't find a better built tool than the P2. Or, if you need a saw and second knife blade, the P4 has all that with the same build qualtiy.

Leathman quality can’t be beat. This is the model I prefer because of the number and type of tools and the fact that they are accessible without opening the pliers. The price is more than what 1 would want, but it’s worth it… Just barely.

The free technology enables one handed operation. Very lightweight and versatile. This is the multitool I always reach for. Unfortunately I think it is no longer in production.

Although I was completely taken care of I didn’t receive it!! Was so looking forward to replacing the unit I lost! They told me that it got lost in mail!
